Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Boom Blox can sell?

From the early players of the game it appears EA nailed the controls on Boom Blox. You know, if Carnival games had good controls it wouldn't be so bad that it sold so much. But it's sales are from those who are imagining how it could play, not how it does. When are developers going to realize that the controls working are an intergral part of the Wii experience?

Did Atari use Steven Spielberg's name on the box for E.T.? Not that he had anything to do with the actual game, but have any Steven Spielberg movies had successful games?

If not Boom Blox might suffer the Steven Spielberg curse!

ET on the 2600 did sell well.

Just not the "certifiably insanely" well that Aari prepared for; and therefore the embarrassing flop.

Didn't they make more copies then the amount of sold Atari's or something stupid like that?

I owned it unfortunately. But there were other Atari games that were worse. Just not as high profile.

Did anybody ever do a Raiders of the lost ark game? Done right, it would be great.

I'm thinking of getting it. Looks like a fun puzzle type game that would be entertaining for my kids as well.

No.  There were 20 million Atari 2600's at that point (1983) and they only made 4 million ET carts.  However, they did make 12 million Pac Man carts expecting it to boost Atari 2600's 10 million install base (1981).  It did sell 7 million but that was no where near enough since they produced 12 million.

The upcoming Lego Indiana Jones says hello. I also seem to remember an older Raiders game (may have been game boy though...)

I'm honestly not sure how well this game will do. It looks fun and has an interesting idea, but as a boxed game for 50€? Much like Zack&Wiki, Boom Blox is the very definition of what a 20€ Wii Ware game should be like.

In any case, it'll be hard to say if this game bombs or not, simply because there's very little to make a sales estimate on. How well do puzzle games sell in general? How big will the initial shipment, and initial sales vs legs be? My estimate of final sales is somewhere between 500k and 1M, but I won't be shocked if it only does a few hundred thousand.
