The promotion is up on Walmart.com. It's much bigger than I expected it to be. Just about the entire main section is promoting not just Wii Fit, but other Wii products as well.

If this stays up all week, that is going to give a big boost in Wii sales. I'm still wondering how NPD is going to track this and the TRU promotion. These two retailers could easily sell a a couple hundred thousand units.

It doesn't look like just a Mother's Day promo, really.

It scrolls through

"A perfect gift for moms"
"Active play for kids"
"Workout tools and more"

And then has a bunch of other non-Mother's Day Wii ads all over the rest of the page.

No doubt about it, though, Wii Fit is going to be huge. Could sell about 1M units in May.

I have Wii Fit and let me tell you thats not a real pose - it's kinda like the tree but without the hands above the head, amateurs.

Still it's better than my effort when I did it which was

1. place one foot on knee
2. stretch arms above head
3. Fall over
4. Smash head off coffee table
5. Grab a beer and sit and sulk in the corner whilst everybody else laughs at you.

Excellent gift for mother.

Yeah, I was actually considering buying Wii Fit for my mother, but then I realized that she would look down on videogames no matter what, and also, she doesn't have a Wii. Hopefully we'll all be able to do something nice for our mothers on this most special of days. Jewelry is too expensive, and I ain't married to her. Videogames are a terrible idea and terribly expensive, and damn if I'm sending freakin' chocolate across the country.

Resort trip it is... 

 It ties closely with the consumer confidence, which is a very good indicator of the health of the economy. Clearly it's a bad news to everyone if the consumer spending is down. Very bad to all retailers.

Hm. $10 dollar gift card huh?

 $0.51 * 300M americans = 150M dollars in revenue difference between this year and last.
 $0.51 * 82M mothers in america* = 41M dollars in revenue difference between this year and last.

51 cents might not sound like much, but on average it adds up.
