You know that article is not bad, it's just not what people wanna here. The PS2 had a bit less shovelware because buyers were not as uneducated in game quality and perhaps studios realize they can get away with more now that the numbers are in. I don't see how it's a joke article.

Is the 20 "good games" thing true? That's pretty bad.

And Fishyjoe, they acknowledge PS1 and PS2 had lots of shit games, but that the Wii's rate of shit is unprecedented.

I was making a chart based off metacritic scores just a bit ago that dealt with this. The Wii has fewer games in the "good" category, but it has the most good exclusives out of any console (my criteria was 75% or higher, excluding downloadable games). It also has the fewest ports though, which is why the numbers for PS3 and 360 are much higher (I think it was around 70 games shared between the two). They seemed to have a lot of sports/racing games + their sequels also.

I guess that just highlights what everyone seems to know already: the best Nintendo Wii games are made by Nintendo themselves.  So there exclusives are the most of any console in the good range, but they have the fewest good games, based on what you say.  This leads me to believe that there are few titles without a Nintendo logo that are viewed to be very good. And correct me if I'm wrong, but games like Zack and Wiki get good scores, right?  So, how many games are "underrated"?  The entire Wii series (debatable imo), okay I'm not trying to be sarcastic but I can't recall other debatable Wii games right now.  Please mention ones I'm missing, thanks.

okay you guys will love this...i crunched some numbers and came up with a nice ratio.......it looks to me that the wii is going along the same path as teh ps2, lower tech specs but funner, getting lots of shovel ware but still a gem or two.....

if you compare where the wii is now 32/190 game (75% or better in rate)

and apply that to x amount of games to a final library of 1547 (total number of games for the ps2 to date)

and you end up with 260 some odd games.......

okay now break that down to number of game per year....lets say about 7 years...you get 30 some games a year....or around 3 games a month......

now a good game to me is around 10-12 hours at least so lets take that times the number of games per year.....you will get about 407 hours of play with the wii if not longer b/c of extra content and online play......so we will say an even 500

now break that down by play time a day and you will average around an 1.5 hours a day

(moral of the story) you can make numbers say about anything you want them to espicaly if you if you start out with a point you want to reach and add in some flashy pic and a graph or two...its not hard

I stopped reading after I saw the graph saying that the Wii only has 11 good games. I happen to think all the games I own are good, and there are at least 5-10 other good games for the Wii that I don't own.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

The most succesful console always has the most shovelware. The situation is a bit more pronounced with the Wii for two reasons:

1. Developing for the HD consoles is very expensive and software sales are weaker than on the Wii, so making low budget games for them (good or bad) simply isn't worth it.

2. It takes over a year to make a decent game, and the Wii's supremacy only became clear to most people far less time ago than that. Publishers were caught with the pants down, and had to have something to release immediately. This means both that the Wii currently has less good games than you'd expect from the market leader, and more shoddy 2 month projects than any console in recent history.

The "problem" is mostly in people's heads, and will go away on its own soon enough. Being an asshole and refusing to license games based on some arbitrary measure of quality is the last thing Nintendo should do.

Shovelware is a double-edge, urr... shovel. All the consoles are competing for shelf space, so having more games eventaully means getting more retail which the average consumer then takes for health of the platform. On the other hand good games have to fight within that console's shelf space with the cash-ins so solid efforts like ExciteTruck end up getting replaced with Puppy Luv or some other piece of crap.

And the problem with the typical game reviewer isn't so much that they are underrating Wii games is that they overrate many of the big-budget over-hyped PS360 games with stale gameplay or are unfun.

Shovelware???

There are over 2100 PS2 and 1200 PS1 games in the database. And there are probably still a lot of missing titles that nobody remembers or wants to remember.

It would be just plain dishonest to say that the Playstation brand doesn't have a sh*t ton of shovelware.

Even the glorious NES had a lot of shovelware, I was working in the database last week and I found a lot of horrible games...

SSBB FC: 5155 2671 4071 elgefe02: "VGChartz's Resident Raving Rabbit"   MKWii:5155-3729-0989

So the Secret is Wii has the most great games!! <- According to this article anyway!!!

Check it out - 360 Good - 26%

                             Bad   - 24%

                            Total - 50%

                      PS3 Good - 33%

                             Bad - 17%

                            Total - 50%

                     Wii Good - 11%

                           Bad -   37%

                          Total - 48%

So there you have it.  Wii has 52% Great or Excellent games compared to a mere 50% for it's competition.  So this article discredits it's own argument.   That said, there is a lot of crap on Wii.

I can live with 500 crappy games on the Wii since I'll play the 50 games that are good

or 1000 bad games and 100 good etc etc etc

worked perfectly with the Ps2 why not with the Wii??

my guess it's beacuse it's a nintendo console

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

This article is retarded. It almost feel like a joke article. A lot of dishonest arguments (like those NMH flopped threads we had). I do not even feel like pointing them out. Maybe later, I need some sleep.

I would like to hear where the article was flawed??? It made some great points but there are still at least 20 great titles for the Wii the same as the PS3,  also just cause a critic plays a game and says its garbage doesnt mean a 5 year old wont like it!

also the pirates game compared to no more heroes is usless granny doesnt want junior coming over and getting F bombs dropped on him even though it may be a better game criticly speaking its a mature title and easier mechanics in  a game make it so the casual market can play.

As long as there are good games to play who cares whats where its when there are NO GOOD GAMES at all your in trouble!

Smash bros brawl ,mario kart , legend of zelda, Metriod Prime, SMG , and included shovel ware Wii sports Game of the year. And who would say anything bad about sports?????

So I would say as long as People like the console and the games who cares what garbage comes out on it Nintendo used to be developer unfriendly and very restrictive hence lack of third party support now they are less restrictive and trying to gain 3rd party support. Which is it allow it or not???????

I believe an open policy will get a few unexpected gems out of the piles of shovel ware.
