lol

isn't it kind of logical for the psp to sell more then DS now?

I mean almost 23million DS v 9million PSP.

I think DS is slowly reaching saturation of people who are interested in gaming in Japan.

Of course it's reaching saturation. That's 23 million DS's in a country whose population is 127 million.

notice how I said "people who are interested in gaming in Japan"

Aus has a population of around 20.5 million yet maybe about 2.5 million owned consoles all up. so around 10%. You are fooling yourself if you think ALL of Japan's population is a gaming market.

Yeah, didn't see that part. Sorry.

I think the difference is that the ps3, as grim as it may be now, still has potential to do well where as the 360 really does not. With that said if sony wants to stay competitive they need a slim ps3 AsAP and a AAA rpg. If they can get a slim model out by the time ff13 lands i think that will breathe alot of life ito the ps3.

thats cool the point being that alot of people who wanted a DS already got it so they now looking at PSP as a second option hence why I think the sales are increasing personally.

Who knows? PS3 has a chance of breaking 20k this week, and wasnt psp is a similar situation, until now?

Ehhhh, well, not really...

The PSP didn't sell all that well in Japan, but it had a userbase proportionate to the other territories even before it hit its stride. It was never in a situation nearly as dire as the PS3's. But on the bright side, the PS3 is performing better than the Gamecube, since they seem to be in close competition for sales from their respective launches.

Not according to this.

PS3 sales, Week 76: 8,292

Gamecube sales, Week 76: 5,630'

The Gamecube had a much larger Christmas season though, even reaching 80k, or possibly even more (can't be bothered to check. And 3k a week advantage might not be able to set the PS3 to victory over the Gamecube anytime soon.

you actually mean the PS3 is dead, cause the 360 figures aren't surprising or unexpected at all... and yes, the PS3 is doing plain bad in Japan... but somehow, and call it wishfull thinking, I can't believe that more Japanese won't at some point want a high-tech follow up of the PS2, the market might have really changed if we can believe the sales figures, but Japan is a high-tech country and the PS2 owner-base is so huge, so I find it hard to believe that the Japanese would stay satisfied with only the Wii and hendhelds..

''Hadouken!''

this is handheld territory - DS teritory

Final Fantasy XIII and a PS3 Slim with Backwards Compatiblity (even if only software) is the only way PS3 is gonna make a turnaround in Japan.

Sony might have all the time it needs in Japan, 'cause it is not in a real competition with a different 'hight-tech' or 'HD' console, it doesn't need to fear to get passed by a audience, that then would chose for some other high-tech console in the near future.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... the PS3's library will grow and it's price will come down, and many Japanese might then still go for the PS3, 'cause it would be almost out of this world if a markets preference would shift so greatly like many people think, and the Japanese would not at some want to experience what Sony has to offer on it's Playstation 3

Imagine Nintendo dominating Japan one generation, and the next generation being beaten by both Sony (a new competitor) and Sega (who they obliterated the last generation).
