Forums - PC - Future Crytek titles will be multi-platform, no more PC exclusives

I understand Crytek. You could compare Crysis with Oblivion. Both AAA games, although Crysis had even more hype.

Both sold a bit more than 1 mill copies for the PC version.

But Oblivion has in total sold 4.5 million (all platforms included).

Or let's say Assassin's Creed. The PC version will hardly reach even 1 mill. But on all platforms AC sold 6-7 mill already.

That's a huge difference.

While Crysis may have had more piracy than most, I would wonder how much of the additional piracy was down to the system specs coupled with the hype for the game.

I could easily believe (while not condoning it) that the extra piracy was people who couldn't resist having a look at the game knowing their PC would never be able to play it properly in a million years.

I really don't like piracy, but obviously some of it is from people who would never have bought the game anyway given the specs.

Oh, and and self respecting PC supporter should be on Steam these days - hard to believe the bitching about Steam when Half Life 2 launched and look at it now!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Assassin's Creed is

A) a platformer, a genre that doesn't do too well on PC anyway, because people think they can't buy a $20 gamepad
B) buggy
and
C) released on PC half a year (or whatever) after the consoles.

Never really expected it to do well.

I'm surprised about Oblivion though, not that it did bad on PC, it sold well over a million I believe, but that it sold well on consoles...it's not the kind of game I'd expect console players to buy.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Sadly, times are changing depending on the industry´s will. The times that devs made PC games for PCs and console games for consoles is long gone.

Actually I thought Oblivion did better on PC than 360+PS3 combined, and it's still selling on PC (unlike it's console counterparts)

Far Cry was in the same position as Crysis, and it only sold 730k in the first 4 months (1 million LTD). It was  still considered a success because it's biggest money maker were the deals with the hardware manufacturers.

But Crysis now did over expectations and much better than Far Cry:

- Crysis only took 1.5 months to sell 1 million (what Far Cry did in it's lifetime).
- Crysis is still charting in several PC Top10's, and no doubt that Crysis will keep selling for atleast a couple of years
- The deal that Crytek made with Nvidia, which no doubt made alot of money for Crytek.
- Cry Engine 2 is being a success, having already been licensed for several other games (unlike the first engine, which was used for Far Cry).

No wonder Crytek announced a trilogy for Crysis.

Assassin's Creed has already been explained by Benkenobi88, but it has been charting in several PC charts AND it's selling on Steam. If it does reach 1 million it will be great, considering the circusmtances.

Dam fucking pirates, why not buy games like the rest of us. You guys expect good games for the PC platform but yet dont expect to pay for the dam games!!

But PC gaming is doing just fine obviously.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
