Forums - Gaming - FFXII: What's the verdict?

Regardless, the game is worth the $20. If you don't like (which I think you will) its not like you lost a big investment.

Didn't like it.
Spent about 60 hours on the game but the story was boring, so I no longer had an incentive to play. Though spending an hour trying to take down the white chocobo was pretty fun.
RPG's I've played FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2(didn't like this one aswell)
FF tactics, suikoden I-V, got too lazy to add more.

Off topic: Is every wal-mart going to have a midnight launch for GTAIV tomorrow?

I actually managed to beat it, and it was quite a feat suffering through that boredom for so many hours. Trust me, it's not worth the money at all. Spend that $20 on something that's actually fun.  Buy a few Virtual Console games or something.

The game is very good in my opinion. I really enjoyed the graphics, big cities, music, character design and voice acting. The voice acting is a lot better than what you would find in Final Fantasy X. Also, I'm not all the way through the game yet, but I wish the places were a bit more varied in design. The story might be not all that interesting, though I still enjoyed it. I was more disappointed by the lack of personality, diversity and background of characters. It also isn't helped that with the license board you can have any character be anything, which is good in one way, but doesn't help the characters be more of an individual. It's definitely not a bad system though, and the new battle system is also excellent. It's really great to see all the monsters roaming around and no more random battles.
If you buy this game, more than likely you wont be disappointed, especially with a price tag of $20. It's very good value for money.

I found it really boring after the initial novelty wore off, somewhere around a dozen hours but I did managed to finish it. I think my biggest problem with the game was it lacked incentive to explore, typical Final fantasies encourage exploration with hidden treasures and unique environments. Yet in FF12 I found most of the treasures scattered around the world to be pretty worthless and the environments felt rather bland.

Otherwise the story felt like an afterthought and while the battle system was certainly new the lack of interact required when your party was properly set up made me feel more like a conductor as I guided my party rather than direct participant.

But honestly even as one of the worst games in the series (I still like it better than FF3 DS) it's better than 70% of the RPGs out there, so if you're an RPG fan at least give it a try.

Wal-marts are generally open 24 hours, so it shouldn't matter.  Once the clock stirkes 12, it'll be the 29th, and you should be able to get your game. :P

FFXII was a complete bomb to the series. I loved FF 1 through 10, each had a unique story, unique characters that you learn to love, and a fun combat system.

FFXII had a terrible story, terrible character developement (actually, there was none at all,) and a terrible battle system.
The story was completley laughable- because of how disapointed me and my friends were, we rewrote the script of FFXII as a joke and it still turned out 100 times better than the games actual script. We actually gave the characters personalities.

The combat system was so terrible thanks to gambits, or whatever they were called, that me and 4 of my friends beat the game by only using the joystick. Thanks to gambits, you don't actual have to press buttons to battle- it does it for you. I remember 3 or 4 times watching the last battle of the game as the controller lay on the floor, no one touching it, and us winning.

It was an OK game, 7/10, tops. Disapointment to the series. I hope FFXIII is better, I really hope so.

I don't blame SE too much though, since the big makers of FF left in the early stages of FFXII's production (which is why the first 3 hours of the game were actually really cool.)

The wal-mart near my house closes at ten. >_>
I might drop by anyway.
This will be my first midnight launch. ^_^

Okay, I'm leaning towards passing on this game. A weak storyline that doesn't pick up until more than 12 hours in is a major turn off (I can barely finish games that are12 hours long, lol), and the gameplay seems to have many flaws. Some people love fighting system, but some people hate it, and it sounds kind've boring to me.

I'll see if anybody I know here in the real world has it so I can borrow it.

And I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Maybe somebody will appear in here with an absolutely brilliant review of the game that convinces me to buy it. :P
