Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - July 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

July 2026 is the 14th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.02 million units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 1.38 million units. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 2.13 million units.

The 14th month for the Switch 2 is July 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is April 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 6.30 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 4.17 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 37.01 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 30.71 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

This will be a interesting comparison to follow. I feel like the Switch 2 will struggle to keep up with Switch 1 until a heavy system seller appears.

Sales are declining quite a bit since the last price hike.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - July 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change over last 12 months: 575,249 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 7,670,162

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 8,638,535

July 2026 is the 69th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 7,147 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.58 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.97 million units.

The 69th month for the PS5 in Japan is July 2026, while for the PS4 it is October 2019. The PS5 has sold 7.67 million units, while the PS4 sold 8.64 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 9 million in month 72 and 9.5 million in month 84. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.01 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in the US and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

July 2026 is the 14th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 55,176 units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.28 million units. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 0.61 million units.

The 14th month for the Switch 2 is July 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is April 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 6.49 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 5.88 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 49.01 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 42.52 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in the US - July 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

July 2026 is the 69th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 12,983 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.99 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 0.31 million units.

The PS5 has sold 30.01 million units in 69 months, while the PS4 sold 29.70 million units. Month 69 for the PS5 is July 2026 and for the PS4 is July 2019.

The PS4 crossed 30 million in month 71, 32 million in month 74, and 34 million in month 86. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 4.92 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

The 14th month for the Switch 2 is July 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is April 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 22.55 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 16.50 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 155.32 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 132.77 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Nintendo Wii by 6.53 million units. The Nintendo Wii is ahead of the PlayStation 5 by 1.71 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 94.09 million units in 69 months, while the Nintendo Wii sold 95.80 million units. Month 69 for the PlayStation 5 is July 2026 and for the Nintendo Wii it is July 2012.

The Nintendo Wii crossed 100 million in month 85. The Nintendo Wii sold 101.63 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 7.54 million units behind lifetime Wii sales.
