PS5 vs Xbox Series Sales Comparison - July 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The PlayStation 5 launched November 12, 2020 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched worldwide on November 10, 2020.

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 94,090,214

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 35,206,081

July 2026 is the 69th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 0.67 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 13.36 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 58.88 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 94.09 million units in 69 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 35.21 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 72.8 percent marketshare (+2.4% year-over-year), compared to 27.2 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-2.4% year-over-year).

The PlayStation 5 is currently 4.14 million units behind the PlayStation 4 when you align launches and the Xbox Series X|S is behind the Xbox One by 14.48 million units.

PS5 and Xbox Series vs PS4 and Xbox One Sales Comparison - July 2026

This monthly series compares the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S vs PS4 and Xbox One Worldwide:

Gap change in latest month: 70,137 - PS4 & XOne

Gap change over last 12 months: 7,148,619 - PS4 & XOne

Total Lead: 18,616,116 - PS4 & XOne

Total Combined PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Sales: 129,296,295

Total Combined PS4 and Xbox One Sales: 147,912,411

In July 2026, the gap grew in favor of the combined sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the last month by 0.07 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 and Xbox One has sold 7.15 million units more than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are currently behind by 18.62 million units.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in their first 69 months sold a combined 129.30 million units, while the PS4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 147.91 million units. Month 69 is July 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while for the PS4 and Xbox One it is July 2019.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sold a combined 175.16 million units lifetime. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are 45.86 million units behind lifetime sales of the PS4 and Xbox One.

Switch vs PS2 comparison will be out in a couple of days. I know July ones have been slower to come out. Trying to spread them out as August estimates will be a bit late due to August Circana report not coming out until October 8. 

Japan and RoW estimates for August will likely be posted week of September 21.

Switch vs PS2 Sales Comparison - July 2026

This monthly series compares the monthly worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch with the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 2.

The PS2 launched in March 2000 in Japan, October 2000 in North America, and November 2000 in Europe. The Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017.

Switch Total Sales: 155,315,322

July 2026 is the 113th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for and it has sold 155.32 million units lifetime. The PlayStation 2 sold between 160.0 million and 160.64 million units lifetime as Sony announced it sold over 160 million, while 160.64 million is the number of units manufactured.

In the latest month, the Nintendo Switch has closed the gap with the PS2 by 0.15 million units. In the last 12 months, the Nintendo Switch has caught up by 3.58 million units.

The Switch is 4.68 million units away from outselling the low end sales of the PlayStation 2, while it is 5.32 million units away from the high end.

Note: Sony announced the PS2 sold over 160 million units lifetime, while an image confirmed by Shawn Layden to be real showed there were 160,636,885 units manufactured.
