Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, out now

Yeah it's definitely not a 1:1 remake IMO, just stuff like the mechanical changes (manual jumping, sprint, free camera in areas that were previously fixed, level design tweaks, etc) makes it feel they'll make it feel a lot different to the original.

It looks just like how I imagined a Zelda game from "the future" would look like back when I was playing the original in 1998.

And less than two months til it's out. Can't wait.

Yeah, when I said 1:1 I don't mean like the 3DS version.  I guess the most accurate way to describe how it looks to me is more similar to the Resident Evil 1 remake as opposed to the Resident Evil 4 remake.  However you want to describe it, I think it looks awesome.

On the topic of the character's faces, I agree that young Zelda looks off to me.  They should have made her features softer or something.  Link's face does look a bit doll-like as some have described but I'm fine with the look overall.  Other characters though, like Saria, look great.

The thing that stood out me was it seems that the size of world will not be much bigger than the original? Map for Hyrule field was pretty small. I was expecting a sandbox approach(not open world) where all areas not not divided by load screens.

Apparently many people are speculating that this is more of a 1:1 remake (probably of the 3DS version) just with better graphics and new cutscenes, kinda like Star Fox. Would you guys be more or less hyped if this is true? Personally, I'd probably skip the game if that was the case. I've played Ocarina of Time dozens of times and the gameplay has definitely aged, unlike that of Star Fox 64. I wouldn't wanna go through the same dungeons again, solve the same puzzles again, etc... Star Fox is an arcade game so it's supposed to be replayed but dungeon puzzles always have the exact same solution and get boring after multiple playthroughs.

Absolutely would be disappointing for me. Re imaginings are the best of both world; modernizing for new players but giving older players who played these games to death something to look forward to.

Has it been confirmed whether the way to solve puzzles and defeat bosses will be the same as in the original?
Ideally, there would be two modes: original and altered,because for those of us who have already beaten the game multiple times, there would be zero challenge, and we'd finish it in a single day.

From what we've seen so far all the puzzles seem to be the same as in the original. There are some minor changes (a bridge instead of a floating platform in the Deku Tree, Volvagia seems to have a fire breathing attack instead of dropping rocks from the ceiling) but to me it looks like they only changed things up when they thought something didn't make sense, could be exploited, etc.

I'm in the same boat as you: I've played through Ocarina of Time like tens times. I can go through the game almost blindfolded. It wouldn't be a challenge to play through it again and I would know most puzzle solutions by heart.

Agreed, same here. Although I guess there are also many people who want this to be an almost 1:1 remake. But I would've loved for them to add a lot of new stuff and spice things up a bit.

Some additional footage of various areas

@Louie

Zelnik has pretty good breakdown of things he noticed in available footage, both form Direct and from Japanese site

Thanks! Yeah, so far it's only little details but things like being able to reflect light beams with the mirror shield, the possible inclusion of new areas around Hyrule castle and a new bombable wall in the water temple look intriguing. I also think the map of Lon Lon Ranch is showing new areas (which is something Zeltik didn't mention in the video). I hope the little things will add up to make the game feel fresh again, even if most dungeon puzzles seem to be the same as before.

Yeah, I'm hoping for small additions here and there to add up in the end for remake to feel both like the same game and yet decently fresh experience.
