Love this thread! My starting point was a old PC my dad had at home, playing simple games as a kid with no idea what I was doing. Now here I am years later still gaming and loving every bit of it. The journey from those simple games to the massive open world titles we have today is just wild!

Christmas Day 2006. I was almost 4yo, and my mom and dad got my older brother (who was 6yo) Smash Bros Melee. He played as Captain Falcon, and…erm…I can’t remember who I chose. But Kirby eventually became my favorite because I liked sucking characters up and walking off the stage lol.

From there came Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, tons of licensed SpongeBob games (e.g. plug-n-play, Attack of the Toybots, etc.), Wii Sports, and as I got older, SSX Tricky, MKWii, and Mario Super Sluggers. Pokémon was big for me from Christmas 2009 through Fall 2011. By the time I turned 9yo (January 2012) is when Skylanders came into my life.

So you started with the Gamecube, or the Wii?

GCN. We didn’t get a Wii until Christmas 2008. I hold fond memories of when we spent hours making Miis upon first booting the system! And then Wii Sports shortly thereafter.

GCN was always my main system. Never vibed with Wii (and especially not Wii U) software growing up.

Yeah I got a Gamecube around the same time; during the actual 6th gen I was still a kid and my parents bought us an Xbox instead, which disappointed me so much at first as an SNES/N64 kid who really wanted a Gamecube, but in the long run it turned out to be a good thing as it helped broaden my gaming horizons.

I got a Wii in 2009 with Wii Sports Resort and Mario Galaxy; both blew my mind.

My first console was X360, bought it with Broken Bond. After some years, I switched to PS3, then PS4. Nowadays, I almost dont play at all - there is no time, and even when I do, i often end up playing pre-2020 games.

My best memories, these will be couch co-op when I was younger, with the pack!

the year was 1977... I was not quite 5 yet but my life would forever be changed by two events that year. Playing video games (Atari Pong) for the first time, and the release of Star Wars. I have been a fan of both ever since.

Sega Master System, Sonic 1, 1991.

The console was originally bought for my older brother at christmas but I ended up playing it more than he did, and eventually it just became mine. Upgraded to the Mega Drive 2 years later.
