Forums - Sales - March 2026 VGChartz Estimates Thread

Welcome to the March 2026 VGChartz estimates thread, which includes the dates from March 1 to April 4. The articles breaking down March 2026 estimates will be posted in this thread.

You can go to the front page of the site and use the drop down to see the different weekly and monthly sales.

VGChartz Methodology: Hardware estimates are based on retail sampling and trends in individual countries, which are then extrapolated to represent the wider region. This typically allows us to produce figures that end up being within 10% of the actual totals.

This data is regularly compared against official shipment figures released by the console manufacturers and figures estimated by regional trackers with greater market coverage than ourselves. We then update our own estimates to bring them into line with those figures. This can result in frequent changes often within a short space of time, but we feel it's important to prioritise accuracy over consistency.

Note that our estimates are based on sell-through data (units sold to consumers). In almost all cases the figures released by console manufacturers are based on shipment data (sell-in), where as soon as a device has left the factory and entered the supply chain for delivery it is considered a sale. This is why there is always a difference between the companies’ figures (sell-in) and VGChartz estimates (sell-through), even after we’ve made adjustments. The one exception to that is when a console has been discontinued and the remaining stock has finally sold out – at that point the figures will match.

So March was the first month since the launch month where Switch 2 outsold PS5 in Europe according to VGchartz estimates. I think that will happen much more reguarly from now onwards due to the PS5 price increase, but it will of course also depend on Switch 2 software releases as well as when Switch 2 get its own price increas.e

I am very curious how much the price increase will hurt PS5 sales. It took retailers until a couple of weeks into April to increase the price, so April data won't be the best guide. PS5 is the same price as the Xbox Series X in the US, but it is now MORE expensive than the Xbox Series X in Europe.

Worldwide figures and the breakdown article should be posted tomorrow morning (US time) for anyone wondering. I like to spread things out at least a little bit. Though, all the numbers are on the site, just hidden on the front page. So the "Console Hardware Sales" on the front page, the "Platform Totals" page (Platform Totals - VGChartz) includes worldwide numbers, and the "Hardware by Date" page (Monthly Hardware Comparisons - Global - VGChartz) include the worldwide figures.

1,7M in March is crazy good. ~2022 Switch level. Last time a console sold that much in March was 2023 when PS5 finally managed to get over their supply constraints

PS5 did really fine too. 1 million in March on its 6th year is a great result. Next month the sales will take a blow. Probably selling 600~650k range
