Forums - Movies & TV - Movies that you loved growing up, but later learned weren’t as fondly viewed?

Obviously influenced by the corresponding thread by firebush03 for games (and lowkey G2ThaUNiT), made me wonder about the same when it comes to film.

For me, there are a few that come to mind, but the probably the most notorious case Great Expectations (1998). I thought it was a near masterpiece back in the day, like its one of the artsy best performed good films out there, only to discover year later that its actually considered very mid.

Lowkey, action movies of the 90s as a whole as well. Like i would watch Face Off or Con Air and be like "This is the good stuff", but in reality it was the good stuff because it was the goofy stuff lmao

I loved (and still enjoy) Jaws the Revenge (and to a lesser extent, Jaws 3-D) when I was younger. The death scenes are pretty brutal. But yeah, I grew up and discovered Revenge is generally considered one of the worst films of all time.

Superman 4. Yes, the effects are poor, but man... I still don't get it. I watch it now, I enjoy it. Perhaps I'm just a poor judge of movies. Perhaps in this one case, even I can't see past childhood nostalgia. But damn it, I just don't see what the internet is telling me to see.

I always loved Cobra as a kick ass action film, only to find out it was pretty critically panned lol. Still a box-office success, at least.

Good shout. Used to have this VHS as a kid, and watched it a lot.

I enjoyed King Solomon's mines quite a lot while growing up, just as much as Temple of Doom which I like the best of the 3 Indiana Jones movies at the time.

The 1985 version (they keep remaking that), 5.2 on IMDB

Jurassic Park: The Lost World was a childhood favourite that I later learned was considered mid, also kinda liked Armageddon and Deep Impact cos I was into disaster movies and comets/asteroids.

Police Academy. I loved, and still do, that movie. It's far from great, but it still makes me smile and laugh with some jokes.

Please excuse my bad English.

Tom and Jerry The Movie. But I viewed it less fondly after seeing the original Tom and Jerry cartoons and how much better they were than the movie.
