Forums - Sony - PS5 and PS Portal Price Increase Confirmed [Update]

Saw this posted on a different forum and couldn't help buy laugh/cry (lol). Remember these days:

The GameCube was younger than the PS5/XBS is now at this point too, lmao (this would be 2006 I believe before the Wii launched).

Adjusted for inflation, this costs as much as Mario Kart World, lol.

These continued price increases make me glad I spent a bunch of cash on a new PC with a 9800X3D and 5080 around this time last year.

Well I am glad I got my PS5 when I did. though now I wonder if I should've shelled out a little more for a Pro at the time LOL

For now, as long as I cam getting my money's worth from PS Plus I'm all good for a few years.

Regardless of the accuracy of this rumour I do expect a price increase like this to happen in early 2027 at the latest. Combine that with a Switch 2 price increase within the next year and console sales are gonna be in the toilet by Spring next year. At those prices the PS5 Pro would actually be better value and if it does get that expensive you'd be looking at potentially a 1k PS6 if things don't improve so RAM prices better fall a lot by late 2027-2028.

Of course ps6 will be cheaper than new price of pro.

I changed my mind about the PS6 price, Sony will just discontinue the PS5 Pro and the PS6 will be $700/800.

Multi console gaming was easy back then. Not only could you get the consoles for cheap, you didn't have to pay for online for them, and the games were cheaper. Too bad I didn't have money back then, I would have feasted.

Sony: Let's P(l)ay.

Pay has no limits.

Ouch..

Thank you for your continued patronage of Sony products.

Due to the global shortage of semiconductors (memory) and other factors, it is anticipated that supply will not be able to meet demand for CFexpress memory cards and SD memory cards for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we have decided to temporarily suspend the acceptance of orders from our authorized dealers and from customers at the Sony Store from March 27, 2026 onwards.

And people said when MS raised the XB prices, that was a nail in the coffin for the Series platform. What are they going to say about PS5? If anything, their pricing now makes XB more attractive (from a price to performance pov). X has always been better hardware than the base 5, MS just didnt put in the effort to show it let alone leverage 3rd parties to try and get the most out of it.

The price to performance ladder looks like this:
512gb Series S $400
1tb Series S $450
827gb PS5 (digital) $600
1tb Series X (digital) $600
1tb PS5 (disc) $650
1tb Series X (disc) $650
2tb Series X (disc) $800
2tb PS5 Pro (digital) $900

Xbox console sales were on life support before Microsoft raised the price. And they started porting their exclusives right before their price hike. Microsoft is simply not a threat as a platform holder anymore.

So realistically, not being a smart ***, if the Helix really is 48 gb per rumors, what price are we expecting?

rtx 4090, 32 gb ram, i7-13700k

Switch 2
