GoG has a good awful selection and most of the games are old as crap, like the original Resident Evil trilogy.. which I can download roms from about 90 different websites. They dont have the new RE games.

GoG, is a waste IMO. A store is only as good as it's selection.

The "old as crap" games are my main reason for using GoG. They make older great games work on modern machines and legally so. Since I play a lot of retro games GoG is my favorite place for it. Since the games to me are often more fun than newer ones I can at least agree with your last sentence.

Fair position, I meant no offense.  For me, stuff like RE1, I bought it on ps1, then again on the ps3.  So I just emulate it at this point, I have bought it enough times.

Define in a logical way how GoG is a waste, please.

If a game is available on both Steam and GoG, for the same price, what would I be wasting by purchasing it on GoG and not on Steam?

I'll have access to the very same game that I wanted to have on the very same hardware that I own.

You don't need to choose only one storefront to play your games on PC. You can have both, and more.

Well, your position is inherently false.  Spiderman, Souls, Resident Evil (new ones), Stellar Blade, Halo, Forza, etc...  aren't on GoG.

Their selection is too limiting, if I am going to buy 95% of my games on Steam..  then 95% of my library is what it is.

If GoG had the same selection, which they don't, then I would agree.  Let me know when GoG has the same selection.

Edit

And even the games added to GoG (AAA games), typically are delayed...  6 months+.  God of War was added to GoG 2 years after Steam.  I already bought the game.  Why buy it a second time?

Personal opinion, but 100% of my games being at an imaginary risk versus only 98% of my games being at said imaginary risk, sorry but I don't see the massive gain there.

Are you purposedly not reading my posts so you can answer whatever you wish instead of the actual question? You even bolded it but answered something else. It's ridiculous.

Seems like talking about Steam is really an issue for you, if feels like you are the one talking about 30fps when its about it.

Completely different person to talk to when it's about your clearly favorite (nothing wrong with it) thing. Yesterday it was cheeky (by your own words) exaggeration as a defense strategy, today is claiming false something that was never said and trying to change the subject with it.

Which games are not on GoG doesn't matter, as I said, you don't need to choose one storefront over the other.

I'll give you another chance, read the question and answer it if you feel like it. If you don't want to, it's fine, nobody needs to answer something just because someone else decided to ask them, but please just don't answer if so.

I read the question and answered appropriately.  I searched GoG for the games I have bought recently, they are not on GoG.

Games selection doesn't matter??!!?  WTF?  That is absurd.  Of course, game selection matters.

If GoG gets day 1 releases of games like Steam, yeah GoG would be amazing.

Your issue is quite clear.  You love discussing theory, not reality.

On paper GoG is superb, in reality the selection is a problem.

I can only discuss it if you answer what has been asked and vice versa.

You bolded the question, read it and tell me how you answered it, please.

You claimed it a waste, which is 100% not.

I asked a very specific question you are still avoiding, you are going into another matter altogether.

If GoG has 200 games at the same price as Steam and someone decides to buy any of them, how is it a waste?

I'm not comparing GoG and Steam library, for the third time, you do not need to choose only one of them.

I'm directly confronting your claim of it being a waste and asking how would one waste anything by buying games there, in the case the prices are the same for said games.

Prove me it's a waste.

Buying games on GoG isn't a waste, but GoG doesn't have the same games.  Your foundation is wrong.  I am not going to argue this anymore.  Your entire statement is based on "if" GoG has the same games.. it doesn't.

Buying games on GoG isn't a waste.  GoG is a waste because their selection simply isn't good enough, full stop.

*If GoG had the same selection, I would buy only GoG and add said games to my Steam library*

But I don't see the point nor utility in debating ifs or buts.

It's not if, it shares lots of games with Steam. The If is there to not need to go into specific games, it doesn't matter which game it is.

I never said it had the same selection.

I'm using the games shared as a base to disprove your absurd claim that GoG is a waste. Not even using the games GoG has that Steam does not. Or that it provides ownership while Steam does not. I don't even need to go there.

It wouldn't even matter if GoG only had like 100 games, it's not a waste, you can buy those games there, it's library being vastly inferior to Steam doesn't matter for this specific debate:

you. do. not. need. to. choose. only. one. of. them.

You are not losing access to your Steam games by buying others on GoG, you don't need to spend anything to be able to buy games on any of them, you can play games bought on both at the same PC you already have. Why would you claim such absurdity is the question.

Claiming it's a waste is so senseless it's hard to believe I have to read it.

You waste nothing by also using GoG.

When you own a game, you own a license to play said game, and that license is fully transferable to another person via sharing/selling. You do not own the game itself, as in the intellectual rights to the game. Owning a digital copy of a game is like owning land with too many local zoning laws. Yeah, you technically own the game/land, but once zoning or DRM restrictions make it so you can't actually use/sell the land/game, then from a pragmatic standpoint, you own nothing.

Physical media decays and is susceptible to dysfunction given their sensitive nature.

The library of congress did a study and found that when stored at 50% humidity and 72F/22C, 70% of retro games will be playable after 100 years. Or in other words 3% of your oldschool game disks will become unusable every decade on average. Now, considering that I'm 8 years older than the oldest game disc I own, and I'll probably be dead or not care by 85, and my games have obviously all survived the initial 20-30 that means around 15%-20% of my games will be dead by then. And I'm fine with that. Replacing old disks or pressing new ones is fine by me and pretty easy. Almost all expensive games are 1/5th the price when you buy just the disk. Most of the value is in the packaging and manual. And replacing that lost 15% would be slowly over decades. I would need to scan my entire collection for failure and replace disks as needed over decades.
