Forums - Nintendo - GTA6 potential day 1 launch on NS2

If true this will be super interesting

There's no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will be trying hard to get this onto Switch 2, but I think Rockstar has enough on their plate launching it in a good state on PS5/Xbox so I think it will be a delayed release at best if it all. Remember, even if Rockstar is willing there's no guarantee it will work. Look at Borderlands 4. Gearbox tried but couldn't pull it off on the hardware.

If this is true, expect a 60fps mode on at least the PS5 Pro.

The biggest challenge in porting this to the Switch 2 is that it's supposedly very CPU-intensive. A lot of extra work and time would be needed for it to run at a stable-ish 30 fps on Switch 2.

But imagine how much it would sell in its first year if it's launched on all major platforms including PC! Maybe these delays had something to do with a suprise "all platforms at launch" announcement.

I am skeptical the S2 will be able to run the game, but to be fair many third-party games are running better than I expected. So, who knows.

Edit

I can't decide if the S2 is more powerful than I thought, or game engines are just that scalable or gaming has hit a diminishing returns or combination of all the former.

“Consoles are great… if you like paying extra for features PCs had in 2005.”

That would be great- even though I did buy Resident Evil Requiem on Xbox, I think it is great that Capcom launched that game the same day on all platforms including Switch2 and I hope that other publishers follow their example (if they have the resources to do so).

The only thing that currently has this in its favour is that Nintendo hasn't done a first party direct and has nothing dated for later in the year. Even by Nintendo standards, they're cutting it fine. I gather that they're leaving the slate open for third parties and if indeed they maintain this stance they'll need a massive third party game later in the year. They could be banking on duskbloods but I doubt given the nature of that game that it will be the big end of year game. This leaves GTA vi as the most likely game to fill the void but then I would assume they would have had GTA v on there already of thatw ere the case.

It's a combination of both. Switch 2 has come out swinging and proven it's way more capable than most expected and games are that scalable that it helps.

Isnt this game pretty much widely presumed to be CPU constrained on PS5 and series X?

That surely makes a Switch 2 port even harder than normal.
