Forums - Nintendo - Gametrailers Mario Kart Review

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33246.html

Overall a pretty good review.  I completely and vehemently disagree with the "huge step back" which they penalize the game for.  Eliminating "snaking" IMO was a smart move.  Though I knew how to do it, I didn't because I often played with people who didn't know how to and I wanted the game to be on a level playing field in the sense that it meant driving a good line, using the slide appropriately, and using power-ups at the right time would decide the outcome.  I suspect if "snaking" was still in, this reviewer would have given the game a full point more...

This just confirms day one for me.  This game looks FUN which is what I'm buying it for.  I know some people are hyper-competitive and will scoff at the loss of snaking, but I believe they are going to be the minority...

i dont really agree with this review in a few places. i consider myself a Kart veteran (own every MK) and i do like the gameplay and the wheel unlike what the reviewer thinks. Also it is not entirely luck cos if you get a really good player they are gonna beat you every time no matter how much luck you have in terms of items.

everything negative he says (except for his comments on battle mode) i disagree with, which makes it a pretty damn good game from my point of view. i dont think it is a step back for the series at all. from all the negative comments in the review sounds like he should have given it a point or so less

Check out my pyro tf2 vid :)

Bet With routsounmanman: By the end of Q1 2008 Capcom WONT have announced a RE5 Wii Edition OR a new RE (classic gameplay) for the Wii (WON)

I don't have MK Wii yet, but I'm pretty sure that the worst Mario Kart is better than most other series' best. It's a definite buy for me!

The video is full of spoilers, don´t watch the video.

Thanks. What is their score? Is it on metacritic?

I somewhat agree but only about the powerslide. At least give us an option to set it back to classic styke. Otherwise, this is a great MK, especially if you like the racing best.

Why is it that so many reviews of this game have blatant mistakes in them? I've seen RolStoppable own at least three reviewers.

That's the worst Gametrailers review I've seen so far. Their mistake is that they look at the game being dumbed down, while in reality it's them being the ones dumbed down. The biggest shortcomings of the game they mention, are their own faults, not the game's. But this isn't the first MK:Wii review that has some hidden hate in it, because the Wii wheel is broadening the targeted audience.

1. The miniturbo solely depends on how long you hold the button. This is wrong. If you steer inside during a corner, the turbo charges up faster. Which means that approaching corners at the right angle becomes important. If you start sliding too soon, you have to correct your slide by steering to the outside which makes you get the miniturbo slower. Over the course of three laps this adds up.

2. Winning 150cc GPs depends for the most part on luck. This is wrong again. If you know how to play the game (see point 1), you can solely rely on your skill to win gold cups.

3. The playing field in multiplayer is much more even because the game has been simplified. Wrong again. Average players stand no chance against veterans.

4. Losing all balloons in battle mode does nothing. Wrong again. Your team receives a minus point.

150cc has always depended a little on luck. Obviously knowing the tracks helps, but I think the main complaint is that there are more cheap items than before and they come up more often. When players are of similar skill there's a lot of luck involved. That's every Mario Kart. Losing all balloons doesn't eliminate you? Surely there's a last man standing mode? Ugh. What's the score?

Mario Kart Wii is awesomeness on a disc. Its a very polished game that only Nintendo can make. But what all boils down to is, that its just so much fun to play.
