Where are you playing?

Switch 2 11 39.29%

PS5 7 25.00%

Xbox Series 1 3.57%

PC 8 28.57%

Total:27

Got the generations pack for Switch 2. Never played any Resident Evil since Resident Evil 3, lol. I started with Resident Evil 7 and played for about two hours, but I'm too scared to continue right now. Which is a good thing. =D

Spoiler!
Raccoon City

This place has such an incredible atmosphere of a world lost to time, the sense of desolation is brilliant. In fact, the game as a whole is just incredible, from the punchy satisfying combat to the phenomenal presentation.

It's genuinely scary too, both in terms of creeping unease and moments to sheer terror.

How's everyone else going with it? How far through are you, what are your impressions so far?

I'm just a bit ahead of you and there's some really interesting moments to be had in that section, especially in Willis Tower (which I'm wondering if they named it after Bruce Willis and Die Hard).

Signature goes here!

I see I am the first one voting here who plays on Xbox Series. I am happy to see it seems to do well on Switch 2 though, that will send a good signal for the day and date releases of 3rd party AAA games there.

I started playing yesterday night, only got through the first two levels. I like it quite a bit, I am definitely most for the Leon section, but I also liked the Grace level and it seems promising how they intertwine following the two protagonists.

The one thing I was not so happy for was that the sounds in the Grace level in my opinion were overdone, so they did not have their full effect. By that I mean that there were so many of them that for me they just blended together as ambient background noise instead of individual scares (for example, right in the beginning when entering the hotel I accidentally kicked a can on the floor which I had overlooked and was startled by the noise- simple and effective; but later on in that level there was so much creaking and clicking and howling that I just started to ignore it instead of trying to check what it was/ where that noise came from). The sound quality is awesome (I played with a Dolby Atmos headset), I just felt the few distinct sound cues in the beginning were more effective for the horror experience than the many later on where I did not even bother anymore to pinpoint what it was or where it came from.

But very good game overall so far, looking forward to playing more today and during the weekend!

Nearing the endgame now, and unless it totally fumbles the climax, this is one of the best games I've played in years.

Spoiler!

The Raccoon City Police Station segment was just masterful; I don't even have that much nostalgia for the location itself as I didn't play RE2 back in the day, but the feeling of desolation, of a time capsule frozen in dusty silence since 1998 was just immaculate. The brief moment where you come across a zombie cop was a highlight; you realize he must have been mindlessly roaming the halls for nearly 30 years, and Leon's reaction ("rest easy, officer") was a moment of real poignancy in script that's often intentionally (and effectively) camp.

The way it's all tied back to series roots is also really well done.

Another real showstopper was the bike chase; normally I'd say this kind of thing wouldn't fit in an RE game without bringing unfortunate flashbacks to RE6's stumbles, but somehow Capcom pull it off brilliantly. "Should have worn a helmet" even got a genuine laugh from me.

Long story short, it's fucking amazing.

Just started on the Pro yesterday. Looks gorgeous. I am just past the first Leon section.
