Nearing the endgame now, and unless it totally fumbles the climax, this is one of the best games I've played in years.
The Raccoon City Police Station segment was just masterful; I don't even have that much nostalgia for the location itself as I didn't play RE2 back in the day, but the feeling of desolation, of a time capsule frozen in dusty silence since 1998 was just immaculate. The brief moment where you come across a zombie cop was a highlight; you realize he must have been mindlessly roaming the halls for nearly 30 years, and Leon's reaction ("rest easy, officer") was a moment of real poignancy in script that's often intentionally (and effectively) camp.
The way it's all tied back to series roots is also really well done.
Another real showstopper was the bike chase; normally I'd say this kind of thing wouldn't fit in an RE game without bringing unfortunate flashbacks to RE6's stumbles, but somehow Capcom pull it off brilliantly. "Should have worn a helmet" even got a genuine laugh from me.
Long story short, it's fucking amazing.
