Switch 1 coming for 1.5 million in Japan this 2026

I expect sales in Japan to be around 1 million. I expect the rest of the world to get it to around 1.5 million.

PS5 has had pretty big year on year drops the last 2 years in Japan, which points to PS5 selling maybe 500k-600k this year in Japan. So Switch 2 has in all likelihood already sold more during 2026 than PS5 will do all year in Japan.

At least 2/3rds in favor of PS5; Probably closer to 4/5ths, honestly.
Even with Switch 2 selling as great as it is, the mainline RE audience has been almost exclusively on PlayStation for last 15-20 years. And the audience has already been on PS5 since Village. It’s going to take a lot more than one simultaneous Day One release on Nintendo and Sony platforms to change that.
This is a great first step. But Capcom needs to build off that and continuously work alongside Nintendo to encourage their audience to give Resident Evil a try.
And that goes for Nintendo as well. With mainline Final Fantasy and Resident Evil both making a comeback on their platforms, they should actively be trying to work with and help Square Enix and Capcom to establish those and their other big franchises on their platforms. Especially during stretches where their own software isn’t quite there yet. From Air Riders to Pokopia - That’s a 4 months gap between major notable first party releases that cater to Japan (Sorry Prime 4 and MT:Fever). Four months is a long time. And having games like VII Remake and Requiem in there to fill the gap goes a long way towards keeping your userbase engaged and giving 3rd parties more exposure on your platform - All positive steps in the right direction towards getting 3rd party support back to the glory days of the SNES era.

Switch 1 continues to defy gravity; 28k on the brink of it's 9th birthday is insane stuff.
Switch 2 and PS5 sticking with their baseline. Big drop for Yakuza Kiwami 3, I can't recall if that's normal for the series and if it's one of those games where the bulk of the audience buys day 1 and legs are short.
Yeah when it comes to Yakuza, Resident Evil and other PS leaning franchises, their Japanese sales will still be dominated by PS5, the difference for Nintendo is that they usually get 0 % of sales for such games because they used to skip Nintendo releases, now they at least get a small piece of the pie when it comes to those multiplat games, which is just a bonus for them.
Switch really doesn't want to go into retirement

Resident Evil in Japan will have to go up against Pokemon Red/Green for Switch 1 and 2.
If Nintendo does a
Nintendo Switch Lite FireRed and LeafGreen edition bundled with dl codes and special lite colors and make this bundle on the market for at least a year 160 will be in the bag.
