Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond Retiring. AI Leadership Replacing Him.

You should all read what the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has to say:

Dustin reads all that in the video I put in the OP. Also I quoted her PR talk relating to "no AI".

Personally, I think things went from bad to worse. Sending out a memo on creative ventures and risks, concept-toying and bravery, only works if you haven't just axed thousands of developers and shut down a slew of studios that tried just that. It's obvious they planted someone who would focus more on AI-driven processes - and "milking of IPs" was clearly the entire motivation behind recent acquisitions - it certainly wasn't for the in-house talent.

The new leadership could, in theory, do things that are good for Microsoft and their bottom-line, but I don't think there's any chance they'll do anything good for gamers or game developers as a whole.

I mean, it will be hard to do any worse than the last few years, so if nothing else, a change of leadership may mean at least the possibility of better management?

Maybe I'm just a diehard optimist, but even just less awful would be progress.

Everything is possible, but how putting someone who dont even know what is her job as head of XBOX division could change anything for better.

She is most likely just a transitional head of division till they fire most of the people and replace them with AI, then she will retire with rly big bonus and that is it.

I just hope for at least one more big Halo and Doom game before that happen

Hm...maybe now they will buy Roblox (few years ago they were on MS' list, IIRC), cause it seems that's what they're interested in, XBOX on everything and younger generations and given they are loosing their battle vs Valve, that wold be their best bet.

Roblox is worth a fortune, this would be them shelling out Activision levels of money again.

A few years ago they would have got it for a much lower price.

Asha Sharma was a bigshot at MS Ai program. MS priority business.

Is her going to MS Gaming really a promotion? Or getting her our of there because MS Ai program isn't giving the results they want?

Phil Spencer is forced to retire.

Sarah Bond absolutely quit because she didnt get picked for Spencer's position and the higher ups in MS wants to go to a different direction that is more AI based hence why a AI Exec is now head of Xbox.

All I hope is b/c is maintained and I can access it, they can do whatever direction they want with Xbox as a platform.

The internet says Asha Sharma is 36 years old. That's very young for managing 20,000 employees at Microsoft Gaming division.

Yeah, it would certainly cost them a pretty penny...then again, it's not like they don't have that money, and Roblox would be buying a whole platform with enormous amount of users, primarily young one, who are the future.

Anyway, just a food for thought, I'm not really expecting anything to happen there, one way or the other.
