Negative, sure. Toxic? I don't think so.

With all due respect...
Me reading title and op post: wow, game must be a slam dunk, likely 85-90.
Me going to metacritic: 77... All the hype for this??
Again, not trying to be disrespectful, but... aren't you "kinda" overreacting here?? Anyway, hope you are enjoying the game.

Eh. IDK the definition of toxic TBH (lol) but all I’m saying is that a positive stat was the central topic of this thread, and you come in with a comment smacking the game down. You clearly aren’t the target audience of a Mario Tennis game, that much is very apparent from your comment. At $40 or at $70. So why even mention the trite talking points of “$70 for 7/10?? LOL!”? All it does is reinforce yet another talking point from those on the internet who love to simply spread negativity and nothing else.

77MC for a tennis game is pretty darn good— I’m happy with this score mostly because it further reinforces what I’ve perceived as a notable leap in quality in MTFever (across trailers and such) over recent Mario sports games.
It’s like a Sonic fan celebrating a 77MC pre-Shadow Generations. (For reference, that would make for the most critically revered 3D Sonic game since 2000.) It’s all relative. Again, this score places MTFever as among the Golden Age of Mario sports games— that is a very promising stat and it makes me very excited to see.

These games aren't my cup of tea personally, but I'm happy to see it's been relatively well received for what it is.
Certain genres just attract more criticism than others, for instance I'm a fan of the Zombie Army series but just by nature of the games they are (dumb B-movie fun) they get mediocre scores from critics, same for say recent Fatal Frame entries which get knocked for being rather old school.
These are simple party games, and in that regard, this seems well executed.
