Forums - Sales - Nintendo Quarterly Sales Update to 31st Dec 2025: Switch 2 at 17.37m

I thought legends seemed a bit low on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1 considering launch sales were closer to 50/50.

Every digital sale being counted as Switch 1 version is what made that gap so big.

The SW2 editions on Eshop are just bundles including the SW1 game so Nintendo is counting them only as SW1 sales.

Switch 2 numbers are very good, but they will not reach the forecast of 20M.

Pretty sure the forecast was 19m?

Indeed, my mistake.

It's a forecast of 19M.

19M is at reach.

Switch sold a little more than I anticipated, but still not enough to to put it on track to reach +160M. It will likely fall short.

The forecast is 19m - It only needs 1.63m units to get there. It'll get half that with just Japan alone.

Add the US, Europe, and other regions and it would take an utter disaster for them to not reach 19 million, let alone 20 million.

Indeed, I made a mistake.

It's more than likely to reach 19M.

Kirby numbers are puzzling. It has moved 420k retail in Japan, however it bombed hard in European charts

It sold around the same number of Metroid Prime 4 in America according to Circana, but Metroid is absent from the 1 list (suggests <1 million)

Maybe they overshipped it a bit during Christmas and the game had a high digital ratio even in Japan. 1 million from shipments + digital in Japan and around 700k elsewhere

Breakdown for Kirby shipments is 900k Japan, 860k outside Japan.

Kirby Air Riders placed above Donkey Kong Bananza in the Japanese top digital downloads chart, suggesting it sold around 200-300k digitally in Japan.

If we include digital only games in the sold Switch 1 software numbers, Switch 1 would already have a software tie ratio above 10, which would be much higher than for any previous Nintendo console. Which shows how succesful third parties have been on Switch 1. Already not counting digital only releases, Switch has a software tie ratio of 9,66, which is a record for Nintendo consoles. Only a few consoles have achieved a software tie ratio above 10: PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, and the original Xbox. So that level of software tie ratio has only been possible on non Nintendo consoles previously, due to the weaker third party support and sales on Nintendo consoles. So for Switch to join that milestone shows that lots have changed when it comes to third party sales on Nintendo platforms during the Switch era.

It should be noted that the PS4 number comes from its softwares sale number that only goes up to September 2020. The actual Tie-Ratio would be considerably higher. Based on current PS software sales(Sony only release combined numbers) it’s likely the PS5 is also very high. I would be fairly certain the Series X/S also has a very high tie-ratio despite being seen as a gamepass console.

I.e. I believe much higher tie-ratios should be expected in general now, and comparing them to older generations will not really reveal too much.

They have displayed the regional breakdown? Interesting. Thanks!

In this case I believe MP4 sold over 900k and only barely missed the mark lol

This is insightful. I was quite shocked by the difference between the versions. Terrible way to count, we will never know how those games actually sold on NS2
