Forums - Gaming - Would you be okay with graphics staying at PS4/XBO level if it meant cheaper games and shorter dev times?

Would you accept such a tradeoff?

I'd be happy with that PS4 and Xbox One level graphics because really I don't see graphics needing to be better than this.

Some games are better with graphics in the style of earlier generations of hardware anyway, look at Shovel Knight and TMNT Shredder's Revenge.

I have ten times as much fun playing my Sega Genesis and SNES than I do current games. So they could literally ship a 16-bit console and as long as the software was great, I'd be happier than Trump in a dressing room at a miss Jr. high beauty pageant.

Whatever Switch 2 is outputting right now is perfectly fine. All I need in a game (visually) is an appealing art style, 60fps, and QHD. Any higher resolution or frame rate is just too much.

Honestly how much closer to looking like real life do we need games to be?

I'm ambivalent

I think PS4 graphics were fine but that was still some junk character models and the environment was often pretty ugly. Of course much of it is down to bad art design, but still. And the 30 FPS for the best looking games was a bit annoying

But I'm totally satisfied with PS5 levels though. I think now graphics are good enough to appeal to my eyes, they dont really need to get any better than that

I also don't give a damn about long development windows. That are shit tons of games being released every year, from lower budget to high end. People who complain about long development times either have too much time and money to play a game per week or simply don't want to try new IPs and genres outside what they are already familiar. In this case just go play the yearly COD or FIFA

Speaking theoretically, as a thought experiment, if it meant games cost less and took less time to make, would you be willing to accept last gen levels of graphical fidelity, yes or no?

I mostly play games like that already.

I don't care for, or need super realistic graphics or 4k resolution textures ect.
Look at something like "Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake", that is perfectly fine imo.
You can't tell me that's not PS4 levels :p

(even if its not on ps4? I think..... steam is where you get it then (or ps5), isn't really a demanding game.)

edit:  Octopath traveler I+II, Triangle Strategy, Live A Live, Unicorn Overlord... ect ect.

Tons of games that arn't very demanding and look beautifull with HD-2D/2D.
Even if you wanted realistic graphics, there are alot of good looking PS4 games too in that sense as well imo.

PS6 is gonna be a tough sell.... even more so for a new Xbox with a rumored 1,500$ price tag.
Why? Just make games in the "ps5" range and chill.

Hell most of us are fine with PS4 levels.  There are other things more important to a video game than just graphics.
look at Hellblade 1&2, both are gorgeous.... would I buy or play them? No, they look boring as f***, from the videos I've seen of it.

Absolutely not. Bring on PS6 level graphics.

I don't care about the game prices, but getting games a lot quicker from Naughty Dog would be nice.

I don't need games to look better than PS4 Pro and Xbox One X as well as Switch 2 in sheer graphical processing. I would like more 4K resolution support and locked 60 FPS.
