Crazy hot topic.
It's been a long for our community.
I'll repeat how wise was to ask that question.
You should be rewarded. 😅
It competed a bit more with ps5 and xbox one series x, even in months (as you enlightened me before that is better to count in such a way ).

It did. Theres definitely an argument to say its 9th gen, but its not as clear cut as some people say, at least not right now.

In the Did you know gaming YouTube channel they had a video on this. Iwata conceded Sony won the home console war after Gamecube. He just wanted to go with DS and drop consoles. Reggie convinced him to do another one but both agreed it can't be the arms race. Wii was not meant to compete with Sony or MS. |
i think what really gave the game away is how Sony handled the PS3. They thought they had the industry on lock but that price point killed them, even though people had no problem paying 9k more in most cases. I think MS would have had to consider dropping out after the 7th gen if Sony wouldn't have had such a swelled head after the PS2s dominance, thinking they could release consoles at any price point, and people would buy it. If it weren't for that, Sony and Ninty would have had a war on their hands. Yet still, i think the WiiU/Switch would have put Ninty in the outer gen scenario they'er in now, indirectly competing with Sony who also would indirectly competing with Ninty. no war, just 2 companies doing their thing.
this computers a bit of, and needs an update but it's to old to get one.
I think sony could have actually won a championship in gen 7 if they played it a bit more safe, didnt throw their weight around so much, and didnt have the "new generation doesnt start until we say it does" attitude. I think wii still probably would have sold 90, 100 million units, but ps3 could have sold 100+ easily and won their third straight championship. Its not what happened though.

I mean, if you want to get technical, Switch 1 is still sold and may yet be sold for years to come.
And what makes a March 2017 release 8th gen but a November 2020 release 9th gen?

Soo by your logic switch2 is 10th genn and ps6 will be 11th genn.
Because if switch midgenns release makes it a new genn then ps6's midgenn switch2 makes it also a new genn.
Riggghhtttt...

Can you show me where I ever said any of that?

Then explain why switch1 is 9th genn and not 8th, and why switch2 is 10th genn and not 9th.
