Forums - Microsoft - Acquired an Xbox One

Due to some difficult life circumstances, I have ended up back at my old place that I share with my little brother, and a friend of ours was getting rid of his old Xbox One and passed it on to us.

I had an OG Xbox in Gen 6 and a 360 in Gen 7, but I never got around to the One til now, or a Series for that matter, so I am curious to try it out.

I was looking to play some stuff that never came to PS/Nintendo, as I have other systems for that; so far I have picked up Quantum Break and am thinking about grabbing Gears 4 and 5. Any others I should look into?

Off the top of my head, Killer Instinct, Rare Replay, and Sunset Overdrive are MUSTS!

Ryse: Son of Rome was good fun. Overly repetitive combat, but it was a great technical showcase. Dead Rising 3 was fun, and there was a remaster of Phantom Dust from the OG Xbox that was a lot of fun too!

Other than that, you still get Halo and Forza Motorsport/Horizon, and I also recommend Gears Tactics if you're an XCOM fan.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Grab:
1) Master Chief Collection.
2) Sea of Thieves.
3) Killer Instinct. (You can download the first chunk of the game for free)
4) RARE Replay.
5) Sunset Overdrive.
6) Ryse. (Visually still holds up well!)
7) Dead Rising.
8) Halo Spartan Assault. (Spartan Strike is sadly the only Halo game not on Xbox)

If you want to torture yourself, Halo 5 and Halo Infinite are also viable, Halo 5 has a garbage campaign though and the Multiplayer is sadly now non-existent.
And Halo Infinite is "tolerable" considering the hardware.

Sunset Overdrive is a must have Xbox One game.

Don't forget that Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games are also playable on the Xbox One (Sadly not the entire catalogue) with many games being enhanced.

I hope things get better at home. Sorry to hear you’re going through a difficult time.

The Xbox One was overshadowed by the greatness of PS4, but it had some bangers!

Quantum Break is a great start. I highly recommend Gears of War 4, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall (I think there’s still a small, active community), Rare Replay, and the Forza Horizon games. Cuphead and the Ori games are brilliant, but available elsewhere.

Thank you; yeah I played the Ori games on Switch already, really loved them.

Rare replay. Forza Horizon series if you have any interest in racing games and Halo MCC though you've probably played Halo on 360.

Dead Rising 3 is pretty good if you've not played that on PC too.

I recommend Sunset Overdrive and Dead Rising 3, I finished both when I had a Xbox One (I bought both again on Steam, but I didnt finished on PC) :)

I recommend looking at the backwards compatible games as a lot are still stuck on 6/7th gen. Also the FPS Boost games.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Ordered Sunset Overdrive, it does look like the kind of thing I'd like. Thinking about grabbing Halo 5/Infinite as while they're supposed to be kinda meh, they're available dirt cheap so I'm curious.

I took the system for a spin; controller feels good in general, though not quite as comfy as the 360 pad, and the one I got has a somewhat loose right stick so ordered a new one. Triggers and buttons feel good though.

OS/UI is clean and user friendly, though it does feel a bit slow loading/installing games as I have been spoiled by Switch 2/PS5.

The one I got is the old 2013 VCR model, so graphically it is showing its age a bit, but that's fine, I game on older systems all the time so its still good looking enough for me to enjoy.

Rare Replay
Halo 5: Guardians - Honestly, it's good. I hear the online is dead, but I was able to play some in 2024.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Killer Instinct
Forza series
Give Halo Infinite a shot as well, but it's going to struggle on Xbox One. I have a One X and it's pretty solid in performance, but I know that's for One X.
There are other games here and there too that are exclusives or console exclusives to Xbox. Crimson Dragon goes on sale for dirt cheap on the Microsoft Store. It's an Xbox One exclusive that can only be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. I haven't played a lot of it but it's not bad. It's a rail shooter.
