Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade free demo for Switch 2 and Xbox Series out now

Took it for a spin on Switch 2.

It's definitely one of the better looking games to release on Nintendo's new system so far; resolution is native 1080p when docked according to Square, but with DLSS to smooth things out. It does look crisp and clean, only downside is the signature Switch 2 thing where the hair shows signs of reconstruction, though its a lot less noticeable here than in say Star Wars Outlaws due to the higher base resolution.

It's 30fps of course, but seems to hold to that, at least to my eyes.

I enjoyed the gameplay and this is on my radar to possibly pick up next month.

I’m also curious how this game runs on the Switch 2. The PS5 version was jank. I usually prioritise performance over visuals, but the performance mode looked so blurry that I ended up sticking with graphics mode and enduring the 30fps horror instead.

Interestingly, FF16 ran better for me on PC than FF7 Rebirth did - though this was back when FF16 had frame generation and FF7 Rebirth didn’t. With DLSS Balanced and frame gen enabled, I was getting a smooth 4K 240fps experience in FF16.

Remake ran fine on PS5. Rebirth had some issues but far from jank.  Jank is Alien Gate on the CDi.

Exactly, Rebirth out of the gate had some issues but there was some patches for it and it looked great on the Pro.

I just played the real game on my PS1 his past year. I have no desire to play it with 2025 revisionism.

Looked great and was very smooth on Xbox Series S. Might be a day one purchase for me!

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

Are you talking about Rebirth or Remake?

Sorry, I was talking about Rebirth. A couple of folks above me were discussing it.

It was too jank for my liking. I wasn't happy with either graphics or performance mode. Funnily enough, if only one mode existed then I may have been more content. Having the ability to toogle between the two modes made me more conscious of each modes deficiencies.

Every game offers performance or quality these days. If that's too much to handle then don't play PC games.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Playing the demo in handheld mode on SW2. Feels like the same experience I had when I first played it on PS4 Pro in terms of performance -- quite solid 30fps. Might actually boot up my PS4 Pro (which I haven't touched in years) to see how it compares visually compared to SW2 docked mode. The PS4 Pro version is something like 1200p-1620p internally, but of course is using a relatively vanilla TAA, where-as Switch 2 might be practically 1080p DLAA much of the time (assuming it has a DRS + DLSS implementation.) Sometimes 1080p + DLAA looks better than 1440pish resolutions + generic TAA for me. Partly because I like sharper images even if they have more artifacts than blurry ones.

I'd rather have a smooth, consistent 30fps with little to no dips than a rocky, inconsistent 60fps that constantly dips especially in the more demanding moments. So if that's what the Switch 2 version is, I'll be more than content with that.

Played it on X and also bought it (get FFVII and the windows version with it).

Hmm felt like the cutscene was 30FPS but gameplay 60 FPS.

I'm glad more people can play. I think everyone should.
