Switch 2 Outsells PS5 as Sales Top 10M - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for October 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,373,214 units sold for October 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 10.68 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 1,310,367 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 82.53 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 275,558 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 152.34 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 149,849 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 33.88 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are up by over 572,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 801,055 units in October 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are up by nearly 25,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 373,000 units. PS4 sold 1,285,830 units for the month of September 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 522,597 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 8,275 (0.6%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 150,475 units (-50.1%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 409,999 units (-59.8%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by over 276,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 202,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 16,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by nearly 45,000.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 10.68 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 10.50 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 3.69 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.89 million units.

Switch 2 Best-Seller Once Again - Americas Hardware Estimates for October 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 404,014 units sold for October 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 3.66 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 259,758 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 32.10 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in third place with 89,660 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 20.62 million units. The Nintendo Switch was the fourth best-selling console with an estimated 64,663 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 57.43 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are up by nearly 71,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 333,378 units in the Americas in October 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by over 122,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 169,000 units. PS4 sold 381,888 units for the month of October 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 258,740 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 109,499 (-29.7%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 105,949 units (-54.2%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 103,374 units (-61.5%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 34,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 23,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 10,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by over 11,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.66 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.96 million units, the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.21 million units, and the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 1.16 million units.

PS5 Outsells Switch 2 - Europe Hardware Estimates for October 2025

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 651,025 units sold for October 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The PS5 has sold 28.57 million units lifetime. 

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 262,681 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 2.31 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 62,855 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 39.24 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 42,243 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 8.69 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are up by over 66,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 196,650 units in Europe in October 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are up by nearly 120,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 130,000 units. PS4 sold 531,169 units for the month of October 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 171,874 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 48,993 (8.1%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 32,349 units (-43.4%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 141,602 units (-69.3%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 3,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 47,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 5,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by nearly 8,000.

2025 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 3.84 million units, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 2.31 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 0.82 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.46 million units.

Switch 2 Sales Dominate - Japan Hardware Estimates for October 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Japan with 397,899 units sold for October 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch 2 has now sold an estimated 2.57 million units lifetime.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold an estimated 98,744 units to bring its lifetime sales to 36.20 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 44,974 units to bring its lifetime sales to 7.13 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 1,742 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.69 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are up by nearly 162,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 235,969 units in Japan in October 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 40,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by by just 12 units. PS4 sold 85,688 units for the month of October 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 1,730 units.

Nintendo Switch 1 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 143,059 units (-59.2%). PlayStation 5 sales are down by 4,082 (-8.3%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 4,120 units (-70.3%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 178,000 units, Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by over 8,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 61,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 200 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold an estimated 2.57 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 1.15 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 0.66 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.03 million units.

This month is gonna be an interesting one to watch, with the arrival of Pokémon and the Xbox Series price hike.

Those PS5 numbers in Europe are insane. With Black Friday discounts we may see over 1 million in November.

I actually think Asia outside Japan is becoming a bigger market for Nintendo than Europe.

Holy shit, Europe belongs to PlayStation for real, more than makes up for Japan and balances out America.

The US and Japan will really need to carry Switch 2 this holiday for Nintendo to hit their 19M target, its doing low numbers in Europe.
