Forums - Movies & TV - Michael Jackson biopic teaser breaks record for most viewed Musical Biopic trailer in 24 Hours; Film releases April 24, 2026

The teaser for the Michael Jackson biopic film has finally been released, and it is immediately doing massive numbers.

The film will follow Michael's rise to worldwide superstardom from his childhood days in Motown with his brothers as the Jackson 5 to his partnership with Quincy Jones that led to Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad - The middle of which remains the greatest selling album of all-time to this very day. It will also cover the aspects of his professional and personal life during his rise to the global icon he became in the 1980s ranging from his purchase of the Sony/ATV catalogue containing almost all of the Beatles' music, his diagnosis with vitaligo and Lupus, the growing rumors, tabloids, and controversies around that time, and how he had to deal with it, etc.

In just one day, the official teaser has already received more likes than the Elvis trailer and is fast approaching the teaser and official trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody. It has also surpassed Taylor Swift's "The Era's Tour" for Lionsgate' most viewed trailer launch ever. And with a total of 116.2 million global views in 24 hours, it is the highest debut for any music biopic trailer. Early signs point to this film passing Bohemian Rhapsody and becoming the first music biopic to make $1 billion at the box office.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest considering - It's Michael Jackson.

Have you seen the trailer? Any thoughts on it? Do you plan to see the film?

My heart says this feels special while my head says to temper expectations. Jaafar looks and sounds great as his uncle and the footage looks good, but Fuqua is a pretty inconsistent film maker and I doubt they're going to dig too deep into Michael's many controversies. In all likelihood it'll be a pretty safe and inoffensive bio like Bohemian Rhapsody. Hoping for more, though. I'm sure it'll do great commercially.

Apparently, Lionsgate has given the greenlight for a 'Part II.'

From what I could gather, you're correct to assume the film isn't going to dig too deep into Michael's controversies. Like I said in the OP, it'll likely just cover from his childhood/Jackson 5 days all the way up to 'Bad.' As the trailer showed footage of him on the Bad Tour and wearing the outfit from the music video.

If there is indeed a 'Part II,' I'd imagine that would pick up where this film leaves off and go into the 90s onward and THAT'S where we'd see Dangerous, HIStory, Invincible (Hopefully? That album doesn't get as much praise and coverage as it should.) his issues with Sony over the catalogue (which played a FAR bigger role in his life than people realize and is what ultimately led to his death), his marriage to Lisa Marie, him having kids, and, of course, the child sex abuse allegations.

I hope that's the case. Because you really can't tell one element of Michael's story without the other. You can't talk about the amazing, once-in-a-lifetime entertainer he was - Arguably the greatest music artist ever (I'm constantly flip-flopping between him and the Beatles - They're 1A and 1B to me) without talking about the extremely troubled and controversial personal life. And there's no way you could tell Michael's entire story - The Thriller, the Bad, and the Dangerous, in just one film.

In an age where someone loses their job because they use the wrong pronoun, an obvious child-rapist's teaser breaks records. I don't know what that says about the human condition, but I'm not a fan.

In an age where research is available at one’s fingertips, it doesn’t take much to find out quickly that the evidence points in Michael’s favor, that him being a pedophile does not hold up, and the accusers’ stories have been thrown out of court multiple times due to defying basic logic and time (Saying you were molested in the Neverland train station in ‘92… Even though said train station didn’t even begin construction until ‘93 and wasn’t finished until ‘94 - A point in time where you said you were no longer in contact with Michael... Despite photographs showing you right next to him and then-wife Lisa Marie Presley at around that same time period.) That's two blatant, easily disprovable lies right there. And that’s just one of MANY ridiculous inconsistencies.

I cant wait for this it looks great and i really do hope they split it into two parts to tell the full story.
@JackHandy, Go do some reading bro and you might feel a bit more better in yourself.

Looks good. Speaking of movies about musicians too bad we will never see the finished 5-hour Netflix documentary about Prince by Ezra Edelman because his estate did not like the end product.

It could be leaked, maybe?.

This is from the Jackson family, so expect all of the evil shit he did to either be dosed with whiteout or ignored altogether.

It would be like Stephen Paddock’s family making a movie about his life and it ends “in September 2017, Stephen went to Las Vegas to enjoy gambling and music.”

"Evil" (Didn't happen) according to who?

Two self-claimed perjurers whose stories have more holes in them than a swiss cheese factory and have been methodically disproven and thrown out of court MULTIPLE times? Self-claimed perjurers who, instead of taking their stories to the police and filing criminal charges against those in the estate that were liable and aided in the abuse and bringing them to justice, decided to go to the media and file civil charges to try and get tens of millions of dollars in legal settlements from the estate of a dead man who already had his day in court and was resoundingly cleared of all charges because they're too lazy, stupid, and/or arrogant to get a real job like everyone else?
