The battle of the pack-in's. I suppose it'll depend on which console sells more.

I'd like to see a list of the highest Nintendo-developed, non-pack-in games. I wonder what would be on there. I bet BOTW would be at the top, if not the top.

MarioKart 8 Deluxe wasn’t a pack in…? It had a bundle every holiday that sold quite well — as do almost all major 1st party Nintendo releases (including BotW and TotK) — but certainly not a pack-in especially outside of the holiday season.

I thought MK8 was including the Wii-U version? No? Because if so, it was a pack-in (literally got my copy that way).

Edit: it was a holiday bundle, so yeah... it's still a pack-in, imo.

If your definition of a pack-in is having received a holiday bundle at any point in a game’s lifecycle, then the label of “pack-in” completely loses all meaning. Diablo III, Fortnite, Mario Tennis Aces, 1-2 Switch, MHRise …all of these games would constitute pack-ins.

If they pack the game in, then its a pack-in, and its sales are unreliable because there is literally no way to know if the game sold the console or if the console sold the game... which is why I don't really care about the sales of games that were packed in at any point during their lifetime. I am far more interested in seeing what a game did on its own and without the help of being bundled.

If we discounted all games that have ever been bundled, we'd have to discount the majority of the best selling console games across every platform, everything from Super Mario Bros to Call of Duty to pretty much all Sony's major first party releases, it would basically make 90% of software sales discussion moot.

It's pretty clear that the majority of people buying say the Wii Sports bundle were interested in playing it given it was a cultural phenomenon, same for Mario Kart World as there was a cheaper console-only SKU if people weren't interested in the game.

The fifth option would be: "MK8, MK8 Deluxe AND MK8 Deluxe Switch2 Edition". Because surely we get a Switch2 Edition of MK8?

I think the lack of the black Friday MK8 Switch bundle now will definitely make it difficult for the Switch 1 only version to outsell Wii Sports, but I think it should easily surpasses Wii Sports soon when including the Wii U version.

In Mario Kart World's case, i dont think the Switch 2's install base will be big enough for it to outsell Wii Sports. Im expecting Switch 2 to be around 130M lifetime which is a pretty big 30M lower than what Switch 1 sold. Im expecting this mainly cause of the Switch 2's price being on the higher end.

I also do think the 80$ price tag of MKW will also be a tougher pill to swallow for as many people to buy the game.

The Sin & Punishment Star Successor Remaster will sell more. If they ever do it I would buy 150 million copies myself with Musks money somehow.

Fucken great game, one of the real unsung gems of that generation.

Interesting enough, Mario Kart 8 DX currently has a near 80% attach rate, and it seems to be on the rise. So, considering how many Switch units are left to sell may be a good indicator to estimate how many sales this game has ahead of it.

In other words, it's just a hardware price-drop away from having a reasonably good chance at surpassing Wii Sports.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
