Forums - Gaming - The "Console Wars" Are Over

Traditional console wars are definitely over, until/unless a new daring Microsoft team with a few loose screws undo everything Nadella/Phil and co did with a vision to "Make Xbox Great Again".

But console wars will now be replaced with "platform wars". Playstation vs Nintendo vs Steam may be even more intense than PSWii60. The lines dividing home consoles, handhelds, and PC's are slowly disappearing. We're witnessing a time where even mobile phones can sometimes provide console like experiences. PC already has affordable handhelds, and Playstation is about to join with a handheld of their own.

Playstation won't have it easy just because Xbox consoles are going away. Their rumored handheld is a sign in and of itself that they know that adjustments will be needed to keep the brand strong. What we once viewed as "indirect competition" is not so indirect anymore.

Around the Network

There is no console wars anymore. Nintendo has the moble gaming crowd + Nintendo Fanboys . Sony has the home console crowd.
PC tries to get a larger portion of the sales with SteamDeck, ROG Xbox Ally and maby next gen xbox.

Without radical changes (like a return to true exclusives), the next "Xbox" is doomed to failure/irrelevance.

Next "Xbox" will likely be a range of PC configurations. We pretty much already got the first two in the form of ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X.

And where is the problem?

Sounds more like fear mongering to me.

Fear mongering how? Did I say it's a "problem"? I'm personally not affected by whatever Microsoft does coz idgaf about their games or hardware.

The "problem" is if Playstation truly doesn't have competition anymore, which I argued it does (Steam and Nintendo).

The age of service war is upon us.
Steam.vs psn vs gamepass vs ubisoft vs stadia vs amazon games vs (insert dozens of services that are all crap)

Sounds more like your Trust with Sony is a problem.

Sounds more like you're upset and don't even know what you want to argue.

Now just need both Xbox and Playstation to lean heavily into the pc console space, and have Sega jump back into the console market so we can get the true ending of Nintendo vs Sega for console gaming.

Sarcasm, I'm sure. Sega doesn't have that kind of money relative to the risk.

Even Atlus games are going more and more multiplat after previous PlayStation and Nintendo exclusivity deals. No console to worry about and a multiplatform, PC, mobile and such has worked out well for Sega.

Apple could try it again after the failed Apple Pippin back in the day with Bandai. But what's the point? People can play games on iPad, iPhone, and iMac.
