Forums - Microsoft - Halo Campaign Evolved announced for Xbox Series, PC, and PS5

Nintendo was apparently very late in sending out devkits, and porting takes time. The system's only a few months old.

Where did you hear this? As you mentioned, Microsoft has had devs kits long enough to bring over Tony Hawk and Indiana Jones… so I wouldn’t think that’d be the issue? Though IDK.

My personal theory is that it’s the same reason NS2 hasn’t received CoD yet… which is another question we don’t have the answer to lol. Prolly just very demanding to optimize (these games are often hundreds of GB after-all), and so, maybe the costs outweigh the benefits on a system with such a small install base, especially when the games don’t have super strong legs past a year.

Then the fact that gamepass has trained people to not buy games, and that Most of their own user base have already played these games before.
I bet Halo Campaign Evolved sells 10-15 times more copies on playstation 5 than on Xbox series consoles.

It just makes more sense, to not skip playstation.

Ps. Recently saw a screenshot of the halo world championship (tournament), with like 600 viewers watching it live.....  Its just sad at that point.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of Xbox franchises have a clear US domination when it comes to popularity. Meaning Japanese Switch 2 sales don't really help Halo sell any numbers on the Switch 2. So the Switch 2 getting a bigger user base in the US is probably one of the main factors MS is looking at when it comes to greenlighting possible future ports to the system.

For Microsoft the meaningful install base figure of the Switch 2 is currently at around 3M, in US/Canada. That needs to increase for MS to feel its worth porting their US dominated franchises to the system.

It's the first game again, are there really still people that haven't played or at least tried it by now.

I've played it on XBox split-screen and PC. Both times we/I didn't finish it (gets so boring in the middle). It certainly looks cool to be on the start island again yet not $70 cool.

Yeah it will sell more copies on PS5 than on Series just for the reason of GamePass. But it will take a big marketing campaign for it to have some decent sales numbers.

Steam trained people to wait for sales, Gamepass trained people not to buy games, FTP shooters trained people not to bother with campaigns. And these kind of remakes are mostly banking on nostalgia.

Half-Life
Black Mesa sold an estimated 3.4 million copies on Steam (end 2024). · Black Mesa generated an estimated $44 million in revenue on Steam.

That's avg $13 per copy. (And it had sales down to $2)

It will take a lot of marketing and convincing new gamers that it's worth paying $40 or more for.

I mean there is a lot of people that has never bought a single Xbox console, and never played a single Halo game. So its all about if this Halo remake manages to get people outside the already established Halo fanbase to want to try it out.

Does this mark the end of Xbox v PlayStation? (“Halo is on PlayStation going forward.”) This feels like a watershed moment, like when Sega announced their plans to release future Sonic titles on formerly-rival systems.

Also, this game looks incredible. That’s a day one purchase.

Yes, it does.

I think Microsoft would rather sell 10-20 million Xbox consoles with high revenue and some profit margin than sell 50 million or more while eating more of the cost and keeping titles away from PlayStation.

I'm convinced Xbox 5 will be an enthusiast device and more expensive than PS5 Pro.

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

Man, I know I should be excited for this, but I'm just not. In my mind, the campaign in Halo: CE is the best single-player FPS campaign ever, full stop. But I dunno. It's hard to get excited about anything from Microsoft or Halo Studios these days.

Also -- and I know it's harsh -- but I sort of hate the graphics and lighting. These trailers remind me of those fan projects that remake Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5. Technically, they're impressive, but there's no soul.

Technically nice but aesthetically dull. It just looks like stock UE assets. Metroid Prime Remastered & Ninja Gaiden II Black managed to keep a good aesthetic while improving the visuals. The original game looks better art-wise. Seeing how dull Halo Infinite looked aesthetically. 343 sucks shit at art design.

And it's going to likely be $70 at that. $50-$60 if we're very lucky. Remakes are almost always full price though; remasters or ports are usually the only new releases of an older title that aren't full price.

I don't have Xbox Series or a Gaming PC, so playing it via Game Pass isn't a choice for me. I'll have to get it on PS5.
