Forums - Nintendo - Assassin's Creed Shadows is out now on Switch 2

Does it still require online to play a single player game? Pretty useless on a portable console if that is the case

Nice.

I hope ubisoft will port the backlog of games as well like they did with Ezio collection, III, IV and Rogue on Switch 1.

Need Unity, Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla and Mirage to appear on Switch 2 now.

Mirage will almost certainly come, as a game that's still fairly recent.

The older ones are a possibility too, though perhaps less guaranteed.

The game is out today, and so a ton of final footage is live:

Overall, it seems to hold up well.

There are visible reductions, as should be expected given this is a system that runs on like 10 watts in a handheld casing, but it's far more intact than similar ports on Switch 1 like say Witcher 3.

It's insane to me when people turn motion blur off in a 30fps action title lol.

Anyway it looks good for a third party port. Very solid.

Ubisoft posted a deep dive on how they modified the game to run on Switch 2:

According to reviews Ubi have also stated that a major update is scheduled for the 15th of December to further optimize performance, so the game may yet improve significantly post-launch like Star Wars Outlaws did.

This marks the first time a current gen Assassin's Creed game has released natively on a Nintendo platform since Black Flag on Wii U in 2013.

Madden (EA) has come back to Nintendo, current gen Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft) has joined the party.

Your move, Activision Blizzard with Call of Duty.

Ironically, the one that had to sign a 10 years deal with Nintendo to put COD on the Switch so they could proceed with the acquisition of ABK, is yet to start honoring the contract.

DF are fairly impressed with it, stating that the only real issue at present is some frame pacing blips in docked mode, which will hopefully be patched out.

I think that shows how low Microsoft and Activision thinks the sales potential of CoD really is on a Nintendo console. They can barely bother to port it even when they have a contract to do it. Seems they think it would sell a few thousand copies on Switch 2.

While COD's total absence from Switch 1 was a weird omission, I suspect the reason this year's entry skipped Switch 2 was due to Nintendo allegedly being very late in giving our dev kits.

There is evidence they are working on bringing the series over:

I’d bet good money that Switch 2 should have CoD in 2026 or 2027. Seeing as games like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and Borderlands 4 aren’t even hitting the system until December 2025/TBA 2026, then there’s no doubt CoD simply just didn’t have enough dev time to be optimized for the system to any reasonable degree.
