Dark Souls II

At first, I didn't like it - I actually quit and played it again only after Scholar of the First Sin released. And then, for some reason, I loved it...so much that it became my favourite DS - so, I guess I'm in that minority who really, really likes it.

Wario World

First, let me say I haven’t really played the other Wario Land games, but I do know that its reception has been mixed compared to the Land series. However, playing this game really does bring out a lot of enjoyment. Beating up the enemies, sucking up the coins and a lot of collectibles to try to 100%. All of this is very satisfying. Not to mention it’s very colorful and has a lot of that GameCube era charm to it.

I do not consider SMB2 a Mario game--because it's not--but it's still fun. Weird, but fun.

Nightshade (Shinobi series) thos this series has more than one. I honestly don't get why it was shat on. It's a damn good game. It plays just as good as Shinobi 2002.

Splatterhouse 2010. As a fan of the series, this got shat on. However, when you play it, it's a fun beat 'em up. It's a 3D brawler, and it's just a 3D Splatterhouse game.

PS2 Contra games. Shattered Soldier & Neo Contra. I think these would be well liked today, and people are coming around on them. Just the environment they launched in people and reviewers were not as accepting.

Every single 3D Castlevania are good games. The N64 was ambitious but came post-SOTN, so it was doomed already. Its worst aspect is the camera, which is what most 3D games suffer from. Lament is great. Curse is great and the LoS games are good.

Gears of War Judgment. It's fine. It plays a little differently with the controls. But it's more or less Gears. Feels like DLC rather than a full game so maybe at full price it was a letdown. Buy it for 10 bucks more than a decade later, and it fills in the need to finish every Gears game.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Another Zelda II stan here. That game was really good, even if I am glad they went back to top down for the series after that.

Final Fantasy 2, 8, and 12. 2 was the only NES FF I stuck with to finish.

I have a soft spot for 8. I enjoyed the junction system, and the story came out when I was starting college. I did not have a good time in high school and was nervous about going back to school.

12 is my second favorite game in the series. I enjoyed it much more than I did 10.

I still need to replay it to confirm but I remember Prince of Persia 2008, despite its shortcomings, having a flow state to its platforming (particularly toward the end) that the previous games either didn't or only in short bursts, not to mention a nice art style.

Lotta great calls here. Seconding Bioshock 2, Gears Judgement, Mario Bros 2; I really loved those ones too in spite of them being odd ducks relative to their peers.

I'm also gonna throw in Doom 3, (very different to the rest of the series with its slower pace and more horror-focused angle, but still very enjoyable) Splinter Cell Conviction (much more action-focused than prior entries but still great at making the player feel like a badass) and Silent Hill Shattered Memories. (brilliant atmosphere and great use of the Wii's controller)

Another one I enjoyed far more than 'was allowed at the time' is Silent Hill Downpour.

I loved the puzzle / adventure / exploration nature of it.

lol 8 hour let's play.

@curl-6 Agree on Doom 3, loved it despite not being able to finish it first time (my PC at the time couldn't handle the final level, rest ran fine ugh)

I never played Shattered memories, actually this is the first time I heard of it.

If Wii level graphics and motion controls aren't a dealbreaker for you, I'd definitely recommend it, it's an interesting little spinoff with some cool ideas.

You just described VR :p

I'll keep it in mind next time I visit my local game store, lots of Wii games there.
