Forums - Nintendo - Why do you think Nintendo has survived so long as a platform holder?

You realize I am referring to the joycon straps? The joycon straps dont connect to the console at all in any form similar to the images above. They literally can only be used when the joycons are detached from the console. Almost like they were meant to be used in motion control games. They are motion controllers which is what Wii helped popularize, a home console. PS move, a motion controller also had straps attached to the controller which was advertised as an PS3 controller. Not sure why people bend over backwards to act like motion controllers aren't aligned with home consoles. It's barely an experience playing Nintendo Switch Sports on a 6 inch screen 5ft away. It is clearly a home console game.

Every VR headset has motion controllers, most of them with straps. Doesn't make them home consoles.

The PSVita also had some games with motion controls (six-axis). Doesn't make it a home console.

VR headsets are hardly portable considering you can't see your surroundings. I have one lol, mine literally keeps me within a zone ie discourages mobility. Also what makes it (Switch/Switch 2) a home and handheld console are all of its features including the straps. I guess you are right it's also a VR headset thanks to VR Boy in February.

Come on guys, it's 2025, the whole "Switch is handheld/not a console" is a dead horse that's been beaten to a fine dust at this point.

This is derailing the topic.

The mental gymnastics... The strawman arguments...how tiresome is going in circles...You just cant win with these guys, they wont let you have a sane conversation development

Any decent and modern VR headset has a "passthrough" mode that allows you to see your surroundings.

Mine as soon as I leave the zone switches to camera passthrough mode so I can navigate obsticles without issue.

Yes mine does the same, when I leave the zone it allows me to see my surroundings. What I found annoying is that I couldn't even play until I returned to that specific zone in my home. Like how did it even know? I had to reset my zone to play in another room. Now ofcourse this goes to my point of, VR headsets aren't built for mobility for obvious reasons. Having a passthrough means you can't play the game lol.

Depends on the VR headset and game in question as some are more "Augmented reality" rather than "Virtual Reality".

But you are right that VR tends to be an optimal experience in a fixed location.
