Forums - Nintendo - PSA: Avoid Yooka Replaylee on NS2!

Are you purchasing Yooka Replayee?

Yes! Day one 3 25.00%

Yes, but I’m waiting for a sale. 0 0%

I’m waiting for physica... 1 8.33%

Maybe 2 16.67%

No. 6 50.00%

Total:12

For those interested in the Yooka Replaylee remaster/remake releasing next week, word of advice: If you want 60fps, AVOID the NS2 edition for a little while. Playtonic claims they did not have access to dev kits early enough in order to optimize the game for the system, leading to issues such as 30fps. They claim a performance mode will be added later on…but until this is added, I say either hold off or purchase on PS5.

As long as its on the cart when it comes out Im good.

But thanks for the heads up.

It's not a day one by any means type of game for me. If I get it, it will be on sale years from now, since I already beat the original years ago.

I'm actually getting it on Switch 2 because I was an original backer and get a discount on it, but with my huge backlog I can afford to wait on playing it for a while

This is the one aspect of the Switch 2 launch I think Nintendo really screwed up. It is clear the SW2 was aiming for an earlier release date than it actually did, and you would expect developers to have more time with dev kits, not less given that. I am sure Nintendo has its reasons, but I doubt they're very good.

If I ever repurchase it will no doubt be on PS5.
You should have that added option in the poll

The devkit situation, where many devs reportedly either didn't get kits soon enough or are still waiting on them, is really stupid if true.

That said, 30fps isn't really a problem for a game like this, it's a slow paced collectathon like Banjo Kazooie, not a twitch platformer, and the original was 30fps on PS4/XBO. I played it on Switch 1 and it was fine.

The poll wasn’t asking if you’d be purchasing for NS2; rather, it was asking if you would purchase the game (on any platform). I’m tempted to go with PS5 myself just because I know it’ll run significantly smoother…but IDK I feel like purchasing the Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor is an experience that I’d want to play on a Nintendo system.

I already own it on PS4 so it doesn't apply to me but thanks for posting it for those who are interested.

This is the way the industry has always gone. Company A are underdogs, goes full-on consumer-friendly mode with affordable pricing etc until they are now market leader, then suddenly raise prices and become anti-consumer until the consumer stops buying their products, then reverts magically back to original approach... rinse and repeat. We've seen this from all three of them, and it gets tiring. You'd think they'd figure this stuff out but nope.
