Highly unlikely, Wii U is significantly less well liked than the Gamecube.

I don't know why you're so worked up, it's not like the Gamecube is dominating the poll, it's quite close.

Why is it close? Objectively, the PS4 is a much better console. Some people here might say it's because they never owned a PS4 so they chose the GC but one would think more people here would own a PS4 since it nearly outsold the GC by 100 million but whatever

Console quality is subjective, as how much one enjoys a console depends entirely on personal preference.

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the Gamecube, but many others consider it a great console. It's all a matter of opinion.

I’m in the Dreamcast Club. It had some of my favourite games of all time on it… I played Skies of Arcadia multiple times on it. Early on, Sonic Adventure, I still remember the first time seeing the Echidna pyramid, which was one of those breathtaking moments in video game breakthroughs similar to the first time seeing the alien mothership in Lylat Wars, the first time seeing Midgar in that opening FMV in FF7, the Kingdom of Zeal in Chrono Trigger, or the first time seeing and swinging through the tangible looking 3D jungles of Donkey Kong Country. I was already kinda falling out with fighting games, but then Soul Calibre arrived… walls of flavour text (that I found interesting, I love history), but a very modern feeling fighting game in an era where button-mashers were taking over… unfortunately, I think Soul Calibre was the final fighting game I ever got into… but what an exit!

Skies of Arcadia was stunning, with all the reefs and sights to see… I still remember being on Sailor’s Island, and being able to look out a window of a house, and taking in the great view of a giant wall of floating boulders with airships flying in and around… it was quite unlike anything I’d experienced before in a game. I don’t know if it had been done before, at least not with that level of detail and free-viewing ability. I was also very sick (mono) that year, so I ended up with a lot of time! And I played through the game multiple times in the same year. It was the last RPG I did that with. So in a way, it’s like a childhood last hurrah while at the same time being the first fully-3D modern RPG I’d ever played. That game occupies a special place in my memory.

Hard to believe that whole era was just two years.

I'm starting to think vgchartz is dominated by Nintendo fans it's the only explanation the GC is so close to the PS4. PS4 absolutely dominated it's generation. The GC came dead last and is one of the worst Nintendo consoles. I owned the GC and Wii U and actually enjoyed the Wii U more. It had the better Mario game, better Mario kart, better zelda. GC had the better super smash bros

Numerous polls over the years suggest that while there are more Nintendo fans than PS fans on VGChartz, it's not by a huge amount.

Gamecube is one of those consoles like the Dreamcast where it didn't sell that well, but it does have a small but dedicated following among those who did own one. It has a cult following so to speak. It's like how games such as Okami, Ico, the original Nier, Beyond Good and Evil, or Conker's Bad Fur Day sold poorly but still have a lot of admirers.

How is the GC equal with the PS4 in the poll? It's bulls***. The PS4 has a much better library and is the better all around console. GC has like only a dozen of great games because it suffered from 3rd party support. I remember the GC had long periods of no new games. PS4 is still getting quality games after over a decade

When I have time I'll make a list comparing PS4 library to GC library. If you stick to good games and ignore Indies GC library is quite good compared to PS4. Also there's a lot of recency bias here. How many PS4 games will be considered classics in a decade?

If GC library is half as good as PS4 it wouldn't come last that generation. One sold 110 million and absolutely dominated it's generation and the other sold 20 million and came last so how is it possible GC library is anywhere near as good as PS4's library

PS2 dominated that generation with 77% of consoles sold being PS2s. The lack of a DVD player and more mature games really hurt the GC. After decades of hindsight many people realize the GC had great 3rd party support and a fantastic lineup of 1st party games.

To be fair, Gamecube is the least Nintendo-like console ever made, and it wasn't a happy era for Nintendo's development staff who felt Nintendo was losing its creative edge and failing to stand out (Read about that here: https://nintendoeverything.com/gamecube-era-made-miyamoto-very-sad/). It was a PS2 clone-box with its library being made up of primarily PS2 game ports with no extra features or perks (sometimes fewer features, like with SSX Tricky). So, people voting for that are really voting for PS2-clone with a reduced library and a Nintendo sticker.

Not everyone here has the PS4.  I personally would pick the PS4 it's my favorite Playstation console. The Gamecube was a fantastic console home of Resident Evil that generation, every game that was on both the Gamecube and PS2 looked better on the Gamecube.

So all of a sudden graphics matters now. You can say the same with the PS4, almost every game that was on the Wii U, Xbox one and PS4 looked better on the PS4. GC had Resident Evil 4 it's nothing compared to PS4's dozens of great 3rd party games. PS4 also has just as many great 1st party games as the GC. Ratchet, GoW, Uncharted, Spiderman, Gran Turismo, bloodborne, Horizon, The last of us, Ghost of Tsushima are all highly rated 1st party games on PS4. GC library is very similar to the Wii U, both had some great 1st party games but the PS4 destroyed the Wii U. I have a feeling if someone makes a poll for PS4 vs Wii U the Wii U would win here

All of a sudden?  Every console owners will always tell you when their game runs or looks better.  Playstation fans cant help but brag when Xbox made games are better on the PS5 pro.  I said PS4 was my choice, Gamecube was still a great system.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I just want to +1 this post. I think we need to permanently retire the word "objective" when it comes to evaluating the greatness of games, consoles, developers, etc. We can objectively measure things like unit sales and teraflops, but that's pretty much where things end. Everything else is too intertwined with personal feelings and opinions.

I'm gonna choose the PS4 even though I didn't own one. My reasoning is that when I got a PS5 and I was able to play PS5 games along with all the games I missed out, I totally fell in love with the PS4 library.

Not just all of the great third parties (Witcher 3, XCOM2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance) but the exclusives were just firing in all cylinders. Heck, Ghost of Tsushima and TLOUII became some of my all-time favorites!

I had a PS4 (Pro to be more specific) for 3 years and several months before getting a PS5 and I still play a lot of PS4 games on PS5. There are simply titles I hadn't gotten around to or the occasional game I already played on PS4 that I want to play more of like Star Wars Battlefront II.

Even with price increases for PS5, the fact that it's a much more powerful console and can play 99% of PS4 games (most without issue and some enhanced) makes it a no-brainer to get at this point instead of PS4.

However, if someone can get a PS4 in good shape for $150 or under that is the right path if you don't have the money or don't care for PS5. Shoot, even a PS4 Pro in good shape would be worth dropping about $200 on.
