I'm gonna choose the PS4 even though I didn't own one. My reasoning is that when I got a PS5 and I was able to play PS5 games along with all the games I missed out, I totally fell in love with the PS4 library.
Not just all of the great third parties (Witcher 3, XCOM2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance) but the exclusives were just firing in all cylinders. Heck, Ghost of Tsushima and TLOUII became some of my all-time favorites! |
I had a PS4 (Pro to be more specific) for 3 years and several months before getting a PS5 and I still play a lot of PS4 games on PS5. There are simply titles I hadn't gotten around to or the occasional game I already played on PS4 that I want to play more of like Star Wars Battlefront II.
Even with price increases for PS5, the fact that it's a much more powerful console and can play 99% of PS4 games (most without issue and some enhanced) makes it a no-brainer to get at this point instead of PS4.
However, if someone can get a PS4 in good shape for $150 or under that is the right path if you don't have the money or don't care for PS5. Shoot, even a PS4 Pro in good shape would be worth dropping about $200 on.
