Since it hasn’t been mentioned yet I’ll bring up Axiom Verge. This game created by Thomas Happ (and when I say created, I mean he did everything, including one of the best gaming soundtracks I’ve ever heard) wears its Metroid roots firmly on its sleeve, but it absolutely doesn’t come off as derivative.

It’s got a pretty interesting narrative, a ton of weapons to acquire and plenty of secrets hidden in its very explorable world. There’s also a very interesting glitching mechanic that the first time you see feels like artifacting in a bad game read like you would need to restart your game to fix. It’s a concept I hadn’t seen up until that point and one I really haven’t seen since.

Around the Network

Uhhh, that's gonna be a loooong list. Bolded ones I have supported through sites like Kickstarter before Release. In no particular order:

  • Oxygen Not Included
  • Per Aspera
  • Xenonauts 1/2
  • Growing Up
  • Judgement: Apocalypse Survival
  • Wasteland 2/3
  • Shadowrun Return/Dragonfall/Hong Kong
  • Songs of Syx
  • Rise to Ruins
  • King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame
  • Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes
  • Age of Decadence/ Dungeon Rats
  • Disco Elysium
  • I Was A Teenage Exocolonist
  • Star Valor
  • The Universim
  • Vampire Survivors
  • Celestian Tales: Old North
  • Hand of Fate 1/2
  • Maia
  • The Council
  • RimWorld
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Defender's Quest
  • For the People
  • Graveyard Keeper
  • Pathfinder: Kingmaker
  • Undertale
  • Pony Island
  • Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius
  • Rogue State Revolution
  • Banished
  • Prison Architect
  • Eador: Masters of the Broken World

And that's just he SFW list. Long story short, on my PC I only play either Indie games (mostly those mentioned, but not only those) or games that are at least 15 years old (Dragon Age: Origins is probably my most recent AAA game on PC that I actually play).

Bonus for me: This also means that a new PC last a long time with me because almost no game I own actually pushes the hardware anywhere near it's limits.
