That was… a neat direct!
+++ Mario Tennis Fever looks like a ton of fun!!
+++ That Virtual Boy announcement?? Why wasn’t that the “one last thing”? That was massive!!
+++ Never a dull moment! Every moment was filled with something very interesting.
++ Yoshi and the Mysterious Book seems very promising (hopefully a Yoshi game that’ll score above 70s MC/OC)!
++ I’m very curious to see the Mario Wonder DLC!!
++ Mario Galaxy 1+2 coming to NSW/NS2 is extremely cool!! Especially with the addition of new story pages and a physical release of the story book.
++ Kirby Air Riders Amiibo taking notes from Skylanders Swap Force was a pleasant surprise. :)
+ That Pokopia game was certainly an interesting reveal lol. Very creative in its premise, but doesn’t look to offer much more than a game like Animal Crossing or Minecraft, though I think I’d need to see more from the game before arriving at any conclusions.
+ DKBananza DLC wasn’t something that particularly blew me away, being that I haven’t even finished halfway through the game as is.
+ Seeing release dates for Metroid and Age of Imprisonment was refreshing.
+ Fire Emblem has never really appealed to me, but seeing a new entry is always good!
- I still haven’t processed what was shown for MP4…I need to see more of the game before I’m sold on this vehicle gimmick.
- Very little new info on the Mario Galaxy Movie (which was leaked prior).
-- No new info on Tomodachi Life nor Rhythm Heaven.
-- Too much DLC. (And too little info on the single-player component of Mario Wonder DLC.)
-- Too many accessories being advertised (e.g. Talking Flower, Amiibo, Rosalina’s Storybook. As much as I appreciate these accessories, I’d prefer if Nintendo did not place such emphasis on them during a Direct).
--- Very displeased with the “one last thing.” Fire Emblem is not a show stopper (not for me, at least).
--- No reveal of a major system seller for first-half of 2026. With how early Switch 2 is in its life, I can’t say I’m too happy.
All in all? This is the weakest Direct Nintendo has put out in a while. Granted, they hadn’t done more than two mainline Directs since 2023, so quality was inevitably going to be supercharged these past couple of years, but Nintendo needed to do more for how early Switch 2 and for how foggy the future of Switch 2 software appears. As of right now, there is no system seller on the horizon for Nintendo Switch 2 other than maybe Pokémon and MP4 (which are both available on Switch 1). That is a problem I was hoping the Direct would address.
