Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Direct set for September 12

I should've figured that the reason this direct is so long is cause they tacked the Mario anniversary stuff onto it. It had a slow start and there were no megaton first party announcements but there was a nice amount of small to medium things resulting in the Switch 2 having a stacked Spring 2026.

Seems I liked this one more than most people but overall it wasn't a strong first mainline direct for the Switch 2 and was only about decent. The 25 minute E3 2017 direct was notably more impactful than this due to the Mario Odyssey trailer being a 10/10 so if an hour long direct means mostly fluff then I'm not getting excited over the length any more.

Fire Emblem Engage was like... 2 years ago?

Engage was supposed to be released way before, in 2020 as an anniversary title, but it was not finished in time so they kept delaying it until Nintendo found a date lean on releases, but the game was ready since 2022, even the DLC was ready for over one year

Given then art style I'm sure this was developed after Three Houses was finished (~6 years of development) and they are probably working on the next sequel already 💀

I didn't know about that. Curious...

I don't know, I just think this could have been put in half-way into the Direct and leave the final segment for something more... universally loved. Or a more niche franchise making a comeback. Or a new IP. I don't know, a new Fire Emblem doesn't make me very excited. It hasn't been too long since the last one.

Man, see...this thread is why I don't do forums much anymore. Y'all are so cynical and spiteful and hateful. Eager to be negative and pessimistic.

I don't need this sort of 'everything sucks' energy in my life.

I watched the direct live and was enjoying most of it and thought it was a good direct. Then I come here and like...y'all CRAVE negativity. Seriously. The internet sucks. Seek some joy in your lives, people. Touch grass. If it wasn't for you that's fine but the tone of it all is so dour. I got no time for your aggressive misery.

People are entitled to their opinion.  For those who aren't into Prime...  this holiday season is legit a barren wasteland.

Why should it matter what others think of the Direct? You thought it was good. You felt nice watching it. It had games that you looked for. You didn't think they took away 1 hour of your life. That's great. Good for you, I'm very happy you enjoyed.

Some of us just felt the complete oposite. And I think your excitement is just as valid as our disappointment. If you just want to see excited people for the Direct, I suggest you to visit an exclusively Nintendo forum.

That was… a neat direct!

+++ Mario Tennis Fever looks like a ton of fun!!
+++ That Virtual Boy announcement?? Why wasn’t that the “one last thing”? That was massive!!
+++ Never a dull moment! Every moment was filled with something very interesting.
++ Yoshi and the Mysterious Book seems very promising (hopefully a Yoshi game that’ll score above 70s MC/OC)!
++ I’m very curious to see the Mario Wonder DLC!!
++ Mario Galaxy 1+2 coming to NSW/NS2 is extremely cool!! Especially with the addition of new story pages and a physical release of the story book.
++ Kirby Air Riders Amiibo taking notes from Skylanders Swap Force was a pleasant surprise. :)
+ That Pokopia game was certainly an interesting reveal lol. Very creative in its premise, but doesn’t look to offer much more than a game like Animal Crossing or Minecraft, though I think I’d need to see more from the game before arriving at any conclusions.
+ DKBananza DLC wasn’t something that particularly blew me away, being that I haven’t even finished halfway through the game as is.
+ Seeing release dates for Metroid and Age of Imprisonment was refreshing.
+ Fire Emblem has never really appealed to me, but seeing a new entry is always good!
- I still haven’t processed what was shown for MP4…I need to see more of the game before I’m sold on this vehicle gimmick.
- Very little new info on the Mario Galaxy Movie (which was leaked prior).
-- No new info on Tomodachi Life nor Rhythm Heaven.
-- Too much DLC. (And too little info on the single-player component of Mario Wonder DLC.)
-- Too many accessories being advertised (e.g. Talking Flower, Amiibo, Rosalina’s Storybook. As much as I appreciate these accessories, I’d prefer if Nintendo did not place such emphasis on them during a Direct).
--- Very displeased with the “one last thing.” Fire Emblem is not a show stopper (not for me, at least).
--- No reveal of a major system seller for first-half of 2026. With how early Switch 2 is in its life, I can’t say I’m too happy.

All in all? This is the weakest Direct Nintendo has put out in a while. Granted, they hadn’t done more than two mainline Directs since 2023, so quality was inevitably going to be supercharged these past couple of years, but Nintendo needed to do more for how early Switch 2 and for how foggy the future of Switch 2 software appears. As of right now, there is no system seller on the horizon for Nintendo Switch 2 other than maybe Pokémon and MP4 (which are both available on Switch 1). That is a problem I was hoping the Direct would address.

The neatest thing about this was the physical Mario Galaxy storybook.

Also, I never understood why they never released Virtual Boy on 3DS, I mean, that was already 3D.

Give me some time while I write up the announcements from the Direct.

Yeah, you go and celebrate Charlie Kirks death and the rest of us will just talk about how we didnt like a Direct. We sure are the miserable ones...

He was a horrible person and he had it coming. Now, please let's go back to how stupid we'll all look with that Virtual Boy thingy on our head.

Do you HAVE to have the Virtual Boy thing in order to play the games or was that just a silly optional add-on?
