Not had anything delivered by 4px myself before. But I know a lot use them for ayn/retroid because often you avoid customs/import fees at least in the UK. Battery life looks great on the Thor. 7 hours for 1080p PS2/3DS is very nice. |
Hm...maybe I'll try then directly from AYN as well...looking at 4px site and some posts, they seem to be delivering...pun intended.
Agree, battery life is quite good - watched Russ' review today, seems to mirror other reviews. A lot of folks are really loving it, apart from few ergonomic drawbacks inherent for such form factor.

That's a nice one, same SoC as in Thor Lite - I didn't know til I watched Russ' video on Odin 3 from a month ago, but it seems that Retroid and AYN might be two subsidiaries of the same company.
Looks like retroid is announcing a new device on the 27th. I'd say it's probably either a SD865 dual screen device or the RP6 (SD8G2?).
I know there was Qualcomm's press release that next Retroid's device will be using G2 Gen2...which is rumored to be Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, with Adreno 732, which is fairly close to Adreno 740 in 8 Gen2.
That said, after looking a bit, Retroid and AYN are indeed under same parent company, Moorechip Technologies (which is founded by the guy who was VP in nVidia for 14 years), so given that a lot of things that show up in Retroid later come to AYN and vice versa, and AYN just launched Thor with 8G2, I wouldn't be surprised if they go with 8G2 instead.
The G2 looks ok, as just a better RP5 refresh.
The RP6 design looks awful to me. Not sure what possessed them to put put those buttons below the screen. It's bigger in all dimensions than the RP5/G2 with the same screen size.

Yeah, not sure why they choose not to just use the same case as Pocket 5 and G2 - maybe there was problem with thermals, though Odin 2 Mini is even smaller with same SoC.
That said, at that price, it's by far the most affordable 8 Gen2 handheld, with AMOLED no less.
Looks like they may change the RP6 design to the bottom one. Currently has 71.2% support in the poll.
63.6% support for moving left stick to the top in another poll.
Definitely better imo. With a Thor in the way I doubt I'll have any need to get one but it looks like a very good device for the price.
Yeah, the second option is definitely more aesthetically pleasing...what I find weird is they are willing to change it this late in he process - I would guess they were doing some prototyping around ergonomics, thermals and all other stuff.
I think putting left stick on top makes much more sense for it, since it packs 8 Gen2 which can easily emulate hardware that actually uses sticks a lot. So yeah, I would vote for that as well.
I think it's great device for the price - there's nothing as low cost like it with 8 Gen2, but Thor gives much more with its dual screens for $70 more. Besides, KONKR Pocket Fit, in the same from factor as RP, is also $70 more, and while not having OLED screen, it's packing G3 Gen3, which is quite a bit above 8 Gen2.

I think I will just pull out my 3DS if need be... At-least I have a 3D display. Plus with a flash cart I have access to other platform game libraries anyway.
