Forums - Sales - Tie Ratio: NPD Numbers

How is Wii Play not a game, because it comes with a wiimote? Why is that article saying it skewed the data? It's nice to see those numbers rising on all fronts.

I own 3 Wii games and don't even own a Wii, that is an attach rate of... let's do the math... 3/0... INFINITY. just kidding, I borrow my friends Wii to play games.

Remember guys, the PS3 and 360 each sold like 150k units, was it? 250 maybe.

The Wii sold like 4 times that amount, and it still managed to beat the PS3 in software tie in ratio?

That's amazing.

NYT showed tie in ratio, because if it showed static numbers, there would be no way to call the article "Wii doesn't sell software." NYT idiots.

Meh, you're being a bit harsh on the New York Times. They're not so much fools as they are...inexperienced? indifferent?...towards video games as a whole. Can you blame them? Before the Wii sparked mainstream interest, gaming's image was still that of the nerd playing games in his parents' basement. Give it time, and I'm sure you'll see things get better.

And yes, the tie-ratio does look that much more impressive in light of the hardware sales, but I maintain that tie-ratio is the lamest statistic EVER! (Yes, I'm including all the achievements on 360)

This just proves that Wii games are of inferior quality to hardcore games on bext-gen consoles. Wii owners are forced to buy more games as they quickly get bored with whatever games they already own.

Hey, this Wii hate week thing is kinda fun!

And noname2200, I'm glad to see somebody agrees with my stance that attach ratios are meaningless for hardware.

By the end of the next fiscal year it will have the highest tie ratio, highest hardware sales, highest software sales, highest revenue, 50%+ market share, and best games in every genre.

What will PS360 PR talk be then? "Well, our machines are physically larger and thus better."

That was the FSP and MMO sterotype, not the general one.

I count Wii Sports as part of the tie ratio.

Can we take out PS3's Warhawk too, since that was just sold because of the headset? (otherwise they would've downloaded it online, right?) ;>

I'd say we should take out Eye of Judgment too since it was only $10 plus the Eye, but I don't think that'd really make a difference. :P

We're gonna have to take out Wii Fit soon since obviously it has the balance board =P

To Each Man, Responsibility

But here is the fun part : " Just for kicks, we asked about the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, which have the ratios of 4.7 and 4.2 respectively. " If the PSP tie-ratio is horrible than the DS is suffering to .... its much better than what I was expecting :)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Interesting DS and PSP ratios, the OP should have included those too.

I have a quick question that I would appreciate if someone can help me with. When the NPD announced that 2007 video game software sales were $8.64 billion, does that figure not include Wal-Mart?

yeah wii
