Forums - Gaming - Best developer in the world (and their best game) and why?

As much as I want to say Capcom, I think it's gotta be Nintendo. With Capcom just behind.

If this were 15 years ago, I would've had a different answer, like Valve or Blizzard, but for over 4 decades, Nintendo has consistently put out great games. Hardware would be up or down, but even the worst selling Nintendo consoles still had great games.

My personal favorite Nintendo game ever would probably have to be The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

From Software, Elden Ring

Second best is Larian, Baldur's Gate 3

SquareSoft/SquareEnix

From 1987 - 2006, I'd say they were making some of the most amazing games ever, and during SNES/PS1/PS2 era they were the very best game developer around.  Since then quality has noticably dipped, but I also think more recently, they are making a very gradual come back as a company.  I'm more looking at the company as a whole though.  I think the most recent 5 years was better than the previous 5 years, and that period was better than the 5 year period before it.

Nintendo is objectively the best, and it's not even close. But I would like to nominate the team that made Astro Bot and its free cousin. They are making platformers that are as good as the best ever... and that's not easy to do after this many decades. Truly masters. I also appreciate their more mature take, compared with Nintendo's. Playing DKB was fun, but at times it felt like I was playing a game designed for ten-year-olds; like something out of modern Pixar movie. That isn't the case with Astro.

I'd also like to throw Kojima Studios in there. Kojima is an under-appreciated genius, and his games are works of art.

And when/if former Team Ico releases their new game, I might even include them.

When I hear this question I put myself in a position of ....."If I can play games (new and old) from ONLY ONE developer for the rest of my life who would it be?".

The only answer that truly comes to mind is Capcom. They just provide such an amazing variety of games for almost every genre with different characters that I'd be the least bored from.

Either Naughty Dog or Rockstar North and nobody else comes even remotely close.

One of them releases a game and the bar goes up a lot.

My favorite was Japan Studios, but they did not have the consistency in quality of those two studios, but were not afraid to try whatever they felt like. They did make the best game ever tho.

Nintendo too many amazing games. No one comes close if we are being honest.

All-time or currently?

I was thinking currently when I made the thread, but you can do all time too if you want.

Nintendo (OoT). Also, Sega and Capcom. My top 3 since 8/16 bits.

I'm gonna go for Tokyo EPD specifically, for the sheer creativity and cleverness of their level design and gameplay mechanics; Mario Galaxy would be their peak for me, of all the games I have played it's one of the closest to being truly perfect.

I'll also give shoutouts to id software and Platinum for the number of top tier releases they've produced.
