Oh I meant the revealed character from this direct.

Yeah, I saw. Wolf Hawkfield's new outfit. Still wouldn't be surprised if he gets an actual Ganon costume on Switch 2. Sega no doubt saw what Link did for sales of SoulCalibur 2 on the Gamecube. Maybe for VF5 Revo on Switch 2, at least.
What is it with 5/V in a series being milked forever without 6 in sight?
The Elder Scrolls
Grand Theft Auto
Persona
and now Virtua Fighter.
Let me know if I'm missing any.

In Capcom's case, it used to be a joke that they couldn't count past 3, what with the fact that it took them forever to move past SF3, SFA3, RE3, and so on.
Virtua Fighter was released 20 years ago, and with Japanese arcades following Western arcades into decline, plus Sega kind of struggling after going third party, I guess they didn't really see any point in continuing the arms race with Tekken. They pretty much used DOA as a proxy.
As for the rest of them, Rockstar pretty much lives off of GTA Online Shark Cards, yet still has a market cap nearly on parity with EA, which was trying to buy them before they released GTA IV. Why are they in any hurry to spend billions making GTA VI? They're pretty much like Mojang and Roblox Corporation at this point, except that their smaller studios still make games. Bethesda spent years to make ESO and F76 the same thing as GTA Online. Atlus, at least, has tried to branch out into games like Soul Hackers 2 and Metaphor: Refantazio, though they used to make a lot more stuff when they were focused on the cheaper handheld market.
