Forums - Movies & TV - Godzilla x Kong Supernova is now in production, releases 26th of March 2027

Less than two years til the big G and Kong ride once more.

Can't wait for both this and the Minus One sequel from Toho. Kaiju fans are eating good.

I hope this is better than New Empire, that was a significant step down from the first one. Ideally Godzilla will have some sort of proper role throughout the story this time instead of being basically irrelevant till the climax. GVK was also mostly Kong focused but Godzilla still had a notable enough presence. It would be cool if this comes out within a few months of the Minus One sequel so there's two very different Godzilla films releasing close together again.

If the title, roar at the end (it’s clearly a Godzilla roar, but not the Godzilla roar if you catch my drift) and GxK cave painting didn’t already give it away, this code was in the trailer:

Guess what it translates to?

SpaceGodzilla is definitely the villain in this one.

^ That would be super cool if true.

Spacegodzilla was an awesome villain. The film he was in wasn't among the greatest in the series (though I think it's actually a bit underrated and nowhere near as bad as its reputation suggests) and it would be awesome to see him brought to life with modern VFX.

I mean, it was kinda obvious before this with the cave painting originally in the GvK artbook later featured in GxK.

Anyone with a working pair of eyes can clearly tell that’s SpaceG in the mural. Plus they already set up his MV appearance in the Monarch series with the existence of black holes in the Hollow Earth.

But I’m hoping Destoroyah is the endgame monster for the MonsterVerse. I mean, why the hell not? They already set up his eventual appearance with the OD in KotM and he’d be the perfect endgame threat to end the franchise on (they don’t call him the Destroyer Of All Living Things for nothing). Hopefully we get a cave painting in Supernova and/or plot element teasing him in S2 of the Monarch series.

Yeah seeing Destoroyah reimagined with modern tech would be super cool, he was a worthy final opponent of that era of Godzilla.

Vs Destoroyah was actually the film that got me into the series, and remains of one my favourites.

Regarding the film's staff, I'm glad to see Sam Neill is on board, a legend of the genre, as well as director Grant Sputore; his work on I Am Mother was excellent.

Especially with the groundwork they already laid out for him in KotM. I saw a couple YouTube comment/video ideas where crustaceans could’ve collected Godzilla and Ghidorah’s cells (from their severed head and body) after or while being mutated from the OD at Isla de Mera and gestating in the Hollow Earth this whole time. Holy fuck, that would make him otherworldly OP, I’m talking Black Frieza levels here. It would make the Heisei version look like a lightweight. It would also explain his regenerative powers in the MV since this series claims to be more grounded at least from the producers’ mouths.

It would also be heavily borrowing from Bagan’s origin in Super Godzilla, which was his inspiration monster. It’s obvious Destoroyah was based on (and ultimately replaced) Bagan’s conceptualization since they clearly share a similar design and build. Just like Super Godzilla became Spacegodzilla and Burning Godzilla was used in his place against Bagan’s stand-in for the final movie.
