Yes and no lol. I mentioned in my initial comment that the dock that has the disk drive is a separate add on. I think it's gonna be $40 by itself. They're only doing $5 deposits on the disk drive. But it attaches to the console and natively plays all your PS1 games without needing to do anything.

Not sure what percentages, but mostly PC, then Nintendo, then Sony, then Microsoft.
That of course changes depending on what's going on. For example, I have Clair Obscur on Series X and PC. That is definitely bumping XBOX above Playstation right now. And when I eventually play Hogwarts Legacy, that will also be on the XBOX. But PC > Nintendo > Other Two is a safe assumption for the majority of my gaming time.

Yeah, and unfortunately there's no vendors in my area that repair consoles, so along with the Analogue 3D, I'm thinking about getting the SuperStation One which is expected to ship later this year. Essentially the same kind of setup as the Analogue 3D, but for the PS1. Design is inspired from the PSone and supports all original hardware and accessories, supports HDTV as well as CRT output, and of course natively play all PS1 games. The only downside is, unlike the Analogue 3D, you need to purchase a separate dock to insert the disks. Without the dock, you would have to provide ROMs. I would've loved if it was all in a single unit, but if it means I don't have to worry about hardware dying on me, I don't mind as much. This is what the system is supposed to look like.
Then this is the system with the aforementioned dock with the disc tray
Here's the link if you're interested. |
I've been following this for a while now. It's essentially a MiSTer FPGA in a Playstation-ish shell. It's cool that they're doing a disc drive. Though for those who would like something like this but are cool with just supplying ROMs/ISOs, the normal MiSTer FPGA does all of this (minus the discs).

This is cool but I can't buy every clone console. So will live with my Polymega.

For whatever time I still actually play anything these past years, and that wasn’t much, it has probably been like 60/40 PC/Nintendo. Or maybe even more like 70/30. Or maybe even still more like 69/29/2 PC/Nintendo/Playstation, but I don’t think I played anything on Playstation for like three years or something now.

Yeah the disc drive is really the only reason why I'm interested, along with the affordability compared to other clone consoles. I have a collection of PS1 games and some original controllers. Not sure if the memory cards work anymore lol but a couple of consoles I had died over the years, so it would be nice to have a console that won't die and still be able utilize my game collection.
Hopefully they allow for original BIOS files to be uploaded so I can't get that OG PS1 boot up screen

I told you it wasn't overwhelmingly Nintendo fans. The reason so much of the discussion on VGChartz right now is around Nintendo is cos they just showed off their new console, so naturally that's the hot topic of the moment. Personally, I was surprised the PC crowd is so heavily represented, but then I don't visit the PC forum often so it makes sense I'd be out of touch with that aspect of the site. |
You're not really missing much. Besides the big PC thread, that has some constant activity thanks to the news that both Jizz and I post, there isn't much going one, only a few new threads every now and then.
OT: I'm a PC gamer. I mostly play at night, after dinner, and since most days I'm already on my PC checking something, it's more convenient to launch a game from Steam, GOG or whatever with a couple clicks.
My last console was the WiiU, and even then I already played mostly on PC. Since then, neither the PS4/XOne or PS5/Xbox consoles interested me much as I could play most third party titles on PC, something that expanded when first MSoft and later Sony decided th bring their first party titles to the platform.
And when it comes to Nintendo, the Switch wasn't my thing (I don't play outside) and I didn't want to pay for hardware that I wasn't going to use. Had they released a home console in the same way they did release the handheld only Switch Lite, I may have bought one... or not, we'll never know. Of course, I'm not interested in the Switch 2 for the same reasons,
Please excuse my bad English.
Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070
Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.
Mostly PC right now. Primarily on GOG, if I can get the games there, otherwise Steam. I also use my old Xbox One still, as I have a big backlog for it. From time to time I also use my retro systems, PS2, Wii U and Sega Saturn.
My PC is fairly underpowered, so I don't have the hardware to play most recent AAA games at the moment. Getting my PC up to par would be much more expensive than getting a new console, so I might rejoin the console space again, getting either a PS5 or Switch 2.

The MiSTer not only allows for you to put a BIOS file in there, it requires it. And yes, it means I see the PS1 boot screen every time!
Unless Taki Udon plans on customizing it in any meaningful way, I assume this Superstation will be the same. And the nice thing is, if you have a CRT TV that allows for it, you can get a significantly better signal (RGB, SCART, Svideo, or Component) than the OG PS1 ever was able to get back in the day. And of course, you can also do HDMI to a modern TV if that's your thing too. If I didn't already have a working PS1 and a MiSTer, I'd be all over the Superstation.
