if you mean by total sales its because the ps3 is constantly outselling the 360 weekly. and in time it will catch up and eventually pass it. plus all of the games that are comming out for the ps3.

 Add to this that XBox 360 was released 1 year earlier, so it would be reasonable that PS3 would be retired 1 year later, so, as currently it's already outselling XBox weekly,  also given equal lifetimes it would outsell it also totally.

If you add that since the beginning, when they made XBox 1, MS is oriented towards shorter lifetimes, and is now forced to rethink this by tough reality, while Sony is always oriented towards longer lifetime, as they learned that their consoles don't start selling strongly immediately, but start doing well after one year or so and get even stronger later, and the likeliness of PS3 outselling XBox 360 is even greater.

However it is very unlikely that PS3 will catch up with Wii, but the bigger concern for Sony now is to reach 40 millions or so consoles sold to recover all costs, then reach at least 50 millions sold, the more, the better, to keep the brand reasonably strong.

The good news for both Sony and MS, but also for Nintendo, is that for the next generation developing and building consoles with HD graphics and high capacity optical drives will be a lot cheaper, so the hard times of skyrocketing development and components costs should be over, at least until the next big leap forward in TV technologies... It should be also noted that avoiding trying to be ahead of the times Nintendo avoided completely the troubles that hit its competitors.

After GT5p came and went, PS3's sales are only about 20,000 above 360's worldwide. At that rate it will take about 6 years for the PS3 to overtake 360. In that time MS can do alot. So no in no way do I believe it's set in stone. And if you mention Exclusives upping sales, the same can be said for 360. So it will even out. I also think if GTA 4 sells the 360 really well then PS3 may never catch 360.(saw 3 adverts for GTA4 with no PS3 logo and at the end of advert a great big 360 only 159.99. This was on Sky sports 2 during the most watched sport in Europe. Manchester United vs Barcelona in the Champions League.) I have a feeling over 40 million watched that game.

PS3 is outselling the 360 by 52,000 units/week so it will take 123 weeks for the PS3 to catch up to the 6.4 million consoles its behind... NOT 66


hmm perhaps i did something wrong, been along time since i did this kind of math. I divided weekly sales on total sales to check the increase per week. which was 0.015% that means that total sales for ps3 increase 1.015% each week. Then i used logarithms.

 

However the numbers will be a bit off since the total increase will not be 1.015% each week, but if i conclude that the ps3 will recieve a rather strong sales boost( due to its fans sitting on the ps2 waiting to take the leap into the next generation and the rather strong line up), I think you will se that the numbers might not be so off after all. This is just an estimation made by me and these are just my thoughts on the matter. The 360 might receive a sales boost as well, but the ps3 line up is much stronger.


 I think the souces predictio method was an accurat-ish statistic one. He took the average weekly sales this year, and then looked at the difference between the average weekly sales this and last year, and then worked it out from there, which gives about 12m sales. Of course that does not take into account the extra boost expected from GTA IV, MGS 4 and the other holiday big hitters

Someone that seriously states that Future GPX Cyber Formula is a reason why the PS3 will win from 360 maybe should start thinking before posting.
Especially when he has 3 posts, a disturbing name, mathemitics that could make CrazzyMan cry and Star Ocean 4 as a PS3 exclusive.

If you love jrpg then why haven't you added tales of vesperia and infinite discovery to your list of " interesting " 360 exclusives

Actually a website that I've never seen wrong with their listings list it for both. Gamersyde has it as PS3/360. Obviously money talks and could be exclusive to either system but considering rpg's on 360 already I cant not see it going to 360 as well.

Tales of Verspersia isn't anymore a 360 exclusive than Eternal Sonata was.

Square Enix doesn't seem to feel there is any reason to make games for the 360 right now. This is what they said in a recent interview:

Wada: "The main platforms for Square Enix are the Nintendo platforms and the PS3. The lion-share of the developers and our infrastructure as well as our capital is for NDS, Wii and PS3, and this is not going to change."

Star Ocean 4 is a big game. Square Enix allocates a signifficant portion of their budget to big HD RPGs like this. If they were going to be giving a big game like this to the 360, don't you think Wada would have avoided saying they have no interest in it only a few months ago?

Come on folks. Big Square-Enix games just aren't going to be on the 360. Microsoft will fund a few of them like Infinite Undiscovery, but they aren't going to get those that Square funds themselves.
