Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Week 15, 2025 (Apr 07 - Apr 13)

First full week for Switch post Switch 2 blowout, so a drop was inevitable; still not bad performance given that the Switch was a person it would be in an old folks home, at this point it's older than any other system got before being replaced sans Gameboy which was a freak outlier.

In a few weeks Switch will have its lowest YTD numbers, when finally 2017 will overtake it. Clearly last year that the Switch will be relevant in Japan.

It still will be higher than Ps5 , so ?

PS5 isn’t super relevant in JP. It’s biggest territories are EU and USA.

Does anyone know the last time at least one title sold less than 1000 units in the top 30? Because I swear I see number 30 get close to that number oh so much but never below it. It’s… kinda infuriating honestly.

PS5 dipping below 10k only like a month and a half after Monster Hunter Wilds is pretty dire.

Unless something dramatic happens, it looks like it will sell less than PS4 in Japan.

Which isn't ultimately that surprising considering the trend it experienced early on and especially after both price hikes which told the Japanese market everything they needed to know about Sony's strategy there.

Pretty much, yeah, Sony has all gone all in on Western oriented games for over a decade now and seems to have decided to just maximise their profit margin per console in Japan instead of pushing to grow their install base.

If Monster Hunter couldn't raise the baseline, I don't think any game can.

I think the reason why it's getting so low to begin with is that 2024 was a really bad year for software releases for Switch 1.  Both 2025 and 2026 look to be at least as good if not better.  The best selling Switch 1 title of 2024 was Mario Party, and the second best title, DQ3, isn't even in the top 30 any more.  Meanwhile this year will get Pokemon.

And of course, when June comes, the Switch 2 will release and take up many slots in the top 30 with Switch 2 titles.  If the #30 title doesn't drop below 1000 before the release of the Switch 2, then it isn't going to happen.  There will be too many new titles and strong sellers in the top 30 from both Nintendo systems to prevent it from happening in the next few years.  It's got to happen before June 5 if it's going to happen.
