Forums - Nintendo - Can Nintendo turn Switch 2's pricing disaster around? And how?

There are many ways for Nintendo to get around software pricing.

I think the bigger issue is tariffs impacting Switch 2's hardware price. Especially for a major market like NA.

Case in point, it's $630 in Canada, and that's before taxes. -_-

Case in point: 450 USD = 640 CAD (both before taxes)... so the Switch 2 is even a bit cheaper in Canada than in the US.

Big N has been doing well in the Switch era and they want to continue with the Switch 2.

Do I believe MKWorld justifies its $80 price tag? Absolutely yes! However, I do not support Nintendo’s decision to enforce such a price hike, as it serves as the “precedent setter.” Once Sony and other devs start pumping up to $80, then we will see the consequences of this MK price tag.
As far as the system itself is concerned? It is nowhere near “overpriced.” It still sits firmly below PS5 and XBSX in terms of cost ($450 v $500) despite offering a far stronger stream of games.

Any "big scary precedent" this was going to set, was already going to be set by somebody else. People have been talking about game prices going up before Switch 2 was revealed. GTA VI is rumored to cost $90

No, it's still overpriced, especially in this economy.

The price of the console is perfectly reasonable for what your getting. Not many people are complaining about the console price, just some of the games.

If games aren't selling, it's very easy to drop the prices.

I am not convinced there is a pricing problem or disaster when it comes to the hardware. The Switch 2 is much cheaper than comparable gaming handhelds, much closer to its ostensible competition than the Switch 1 was, and offers great value for the $450 price.

The wild card is tariffs, but those will affect all electronics. Nintendo's just more at risk because they are launching a platform during them.

You have to pull back and view what is happening on a macro level.

When Switch was revealed, everyone was glowing, gushing, head-over-heels in love with the thing, similar to Wii. It was the console you had to have, and you had to actually try and find negative press/opinions because it was so universally accepted.

That is not so with Switch 2. All you're seeing is negative feedback. It's one bad thing after another... and that is never a good thing.

As I've said before, Nintendo already had their hands full due to the Switch being a cross-over, culturally-important device because usually, the follow up to those consoles fail. And that was made even more dire by the fact that they pretty much just designed a Switch Pro and called it Switch 2 (too similar). Now, they've decided to stick a price-tag on the system and games that people are unhappy about and well... it's going to be interesting.

That's not what I remember. The original Switch had a similar amount of backlash regarding it's price. $300 console with no-pack in, paid online, $50 tech demo, expensive accessories "underpowered hardware" many people predicted another Wii U from it. But as we know that didn't happen.

Switch 2 hands on impressions are very positive. People like the hardware and games, and even the price of the console is reasonable for what you're getting. The problem really is just some of the games, and the fact that Nintendo has really bungled their communication on that front.

There is no disaster. Just the same whiny complaints from 2017.

You'll get a budget console the next time Miyamoto designs it. Until then Nintendo is back to being premium hardware like they always was.

You got Wii and DS at a discount cos Nintendo was desperate. Those days are well and truly over.

Well it sure isn't cheaper for us.

Remember when people complained Wii Sports was a tech demo even though it came free with Wii and was worth a billion dollars and now Nintendo is selling us a digital instruction manual for Switch 2 and people are actually buying it? How times change.

Not everyone is buying it.
