Forums - Nintendo - Can Nintendo turn Switch 2's pricing disaster around? And how?

Totally agree!!

It depends on whether the dropped frames means it's no longer playable. If it's dropping to lower than 20 fps then it's not playable is it? So very simply, yes it's ok because those dropped frames don't stop it from being a playable experience but these dropped frames into the teens do stop it.

If you set the Ally to 15W and have Switch handheld-performance mode comparable settings (Steam Deck preset, XESS Balanced 1080p target) you get about an average of 25 fps on the Rog Ally with drops to 22 fps. On Switch 2 this is averaging around 35fps, and the APU is pulling 9W max.

The Rog Ally equivalent of "docked mode" (30W Turbo) looks a lot worse than the Switch 2 version for both quality (30fps target) and performance (40fps target.) The only advantage the Rog Ally has is Frame Generation.

Part of this is because of Windows. I think it would get a lot closer using Linux. But the overwhelming majority of Ally users aren't installing Bazzite or SteamOS.

Oh and my ROG Ally cost $700. You can find open-box models closer to Switch 2 pricing these days though.

Performance has also improved considerably over the years. How the game ran on the Rog Ally a year ago was much worse than it runs now.

I would expect performance patches for Switch 2, just like the other consoles (and these PC handhelds) get.

Yeah, I know it looks worse even in the 30W mode but it can run without dipping into the teens can't it? That is by far what's most important. I'm not trying to say it means the Switch 2 is worthless, but it's clearly overpriced relative to the performance it's showing in CP2077.

Without knowing the specific context of "drop in the teens" or the video you are referencing I can't say. Often these drops happen when people look for especially demanding (but unrealistic, if you're playing the game regularly) gameplay scenarios, and I am guessing we'd see something similar on the Rog Ally if duplicated. Having watched a few of these performance analysis videos typically switching to performance mode solves the issue, and still looks roughly comparable to Rog Ally settings.

Overall, in regular gameplay the Switch 2 version has felt like a stable 30fps experience for the majority of the time in the quality modes (handheld and docked), and a variable 30-40fps experience in the performance modes to me, for the majority of the gameplay.

If we are comparing handheld to handheld (Rog Ally not plugged in and lasting 2-ish hours with its 15W mode) then there are significantly more frame-rate drops into the low-20's (and below) on Rog Ally than the Switch 2. This makes Switch 2 a better handheld experience.

CP2077 is an overall much more polished experience on Switch 2 than the Rog Ally, in my opinion. You can tweak the Rog Ally (either by tinkering with CPU core counts,  windows optimization settings, or using frame generation, etc.) to outperform it in terms of framerate (with visibly worse graphics/image quality settings) but most gamers don't want to do that.

And again, there will be performance patches. All versions of the game perform much better now than they did upon first release.

Why in the world are you all entertaining Hard lol, bro hasn't linked a video yet, thinks they determine for all of us what is or isnt playable (frame drops), and is sure people would rather sacrifice battery life than drop frames even though the console that picked battery life (Switch 2) is selling far better than the platform that picked frames (Rog Ally), so why are you so sure of this sacrifice Hard? Let me guess, because you said so lol.

Eh, just found the video I think Hardstuck-Platinum is referencing.

This is an area of the game (6:20ish and on) that makes Series X drop to about 40 fps (and would stutter when the DLC first released), and even the Series S drops into the 20's. People with RTX 3060's would get drops into the 20's-40's in this area (whereas in the rest of the game they'd have >60fps) when the DLC first released.

Ocarina of Time had 16 fps or less (PAL) when it was released exclusively on N64 (a brand new system). People say it's one of the best games ever made. Looks like fps don't matter (for quite some people).

This is just a reminder that Hardstuck seems to willingly ignore any points that are made and will push his "Nintendo bad" agenda.

It's 2025 and there are still people who stop what they're doing to listen to Hardstuck

That's the one. Ok well when you consider it in relative terms to other platforms maybe it's not so bad but you have to admit it's not exactly a great look is it? People care about framerates and when people see framerates like this it can really put them off.

People that care about frame rates will buy a device that prioritizes frame rates.

Edit: Most people that buy a Switch 2 will not be purchasing it to play Cyberpunk, that's a bonus.
