Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart World releases exclusively on Switch 2 launch day; June 5th

Don't worry guys; if you decide to pass on this $80 game at launch, it will still be waiting for you for $80 at the end of Switch 2 lifecycle

...that's assuming if you don't pick it up from its upcoming annual Mario Kart holiday bundle within the next 7 years lol.

I did not expect Nintendo to be the ones to first set a flagship price of $80 for their games. If there's Mario these holidays I fully expect it to cost as much.

Is it $80 because it will include the steering wheel accessory?

No, Nintendo have just added a $10 physical games tax. Possibly due to the new cartridges needing to have much faster read speeds, making them more expensive to make, so that modern games don't need to be installed to internal storage and can still be played off the cartridge.

I'm sure it'll be great, but why did they have to drop the number? It's not like we can't count.

Not the first time.

Super Mario Kart (1)

Mario Kart Super Circuit (2)

Mario Kart 64 (3)

Mario Kart Double Dash (4)

Mario Kart DS (5)

Mario Kart Wii (6)

Mario Kart 7 (7)

Mario Kart 8/Deluxe (8)

Mario Kart Tour (9)

Mario Kart World (10)

Yeah, I realized that the second I hit submit lol.

Once Nintendo reveals the prices for Switch 2 controllers, you'll probably come around to believe me that all Switch 2 pricing is driven by greed, not any of the involved technology.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

As much as it sucks at the thought of MK being $80, I know it’ll be worth the price.

Nintendo has never made a bad MK, and the whole point of the series is how highly replayable the games are. Hell, I’m STILL playing MK8 Deluxe after 8 years, and was already playing the base game for a couple of years before that.

It's eighty because the president, apparently, knows less about the history of the industry than we do. This is exactly what Sony did with the PS3. The PS2 was a cultural machine (meaning it sold to everyone, not just gamers), broke records and went on to become the highest selling home console of all time. So naturally, what did Sony do? Release the PS3 with a ridiculous price tag and think people will literally work two jobs just to own one.

Sound familiar?

The only hope for Nintendo now, is their software. They make the some of the best, if not the best games in the industry, so if anyone can lose their minds and over-price things, it's them. But then, Gamecube and Wii-U had great games as well, and you saw how that went.

We'll have to see, but I'm not convinced it's going to work out. I was interested in the Switch 2 until I woke up and saw all this nonsense, now all I want to do is go play Chrono Trigger and Shinobi 3 on my ancient consoles instead. That says something.

The PS2 launched at $300 and was $130 by the time the PS3 launched and did so at $500/600. Sony's competition at the time had their consoles priced at $250 and $300/400. Your comparison doesn't work.

But I get the point that Switch 2 prices are higher than anticipated by most. Doesn't make the prices insane or obscene though.

The game looks awesome! That price is wacky though.

I will definitely get this game when I buy a Switch 2. I will buy it physically to boot because I still plan on sticking with physical games for Switch 2.
