First of all, I wish all you guys a happy new year! May 2025 be a much better year than 2024 for you, with lots of great things, love, gaming, and all the good stuff.

Well, Hideaki Nishino, the Sony Interactive Entertainment co-CEO has told in a interview to Famitsu about plans for the future of Playstation. While we all agree that the PS5 was damaged by the pandemic and all that bad things after lauch, many of us thought that it's generation would be extended, turning out to be longer than the usual range. But that may not happen at all.

Hideaki says that the Playstation 6 won't be delayed, even with all that has happened. A generation usually lasts around 7 years, and Sony plans to keep it that way with the PS5.

He also affirms that when the time for the Playstation 6 comes, it will coexists with the PS5, just like this system is coexisting with the PS4 up to this day, so there won't be a reason for a delay.

So I think it's safe to say that a successor for the Playstation 5 should be arriving around 2027-2028, even if it has suffered through shortages for quite some time. Let's hope for the best.

2028 sounds right. I think Microsoft leak that date before.

I'm not committing to a year prediction even with this info, but this more or less confirms it won't take until 2029. Granted, that would've been a stretch.
I'm still pretty equally predicting 2027 or 2028 with maybe a slight preference towards 2027. If PS5 Pro sales pick up more than they have, I could see 2028 being more likely than 2027.
It's pretty clear Xbox will beat PlayStation to market this time. Their console will come out in 2026 or 2027.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I think 2027 is the best guess for a new Xbox. Then 2028 for PS6.

Watch all the sceptics flood in here to try and convince everyone that PS6 will actually launch in February 2024 and, that this is a false statement by Sony to mislead everyone.

I don't think Sony cares, MS will not release anything powerful; simply because it does not sell.

Indeed. Even if the next Xbox is 2026 I don't think Sony is budging. Some people might point out the consequences of the X360's early launch days but the PS2 wasn't getting versions of Oblivion, Gears of War, etc. (and the PS2 was still outselling MS's next-gen console...)

Meanwhile, the PS5 will still be supported by every developer past 2026 including MS's studios themselves.

2028. Learned of that years ago, don't remember the source though. Just wrote it down.

I miss five year cycles. I get bored if they're much longer than that.
